In their never ending quest to uncover and stand behind the freshest sounds from across the Hardcore Continuum,  Marcus Visionary & Lush's Toronto based Inner City Dance imprint continues to build its ever growing profile as a label to watch.  "In Our City" Volume 1 curates four crucial cuts of contemporary Drum & Bass sourced from a cast of artists who are all products of the cities storied love affair and history with the genre.

Joining the fray with another label debut is an introduction to another young producer emerging from the Toronto Drum & Bass fraternity, Hungry T.  A vastly talented and diverse artist, Hungry T 's sound runs the gauntlet of in your face Jungle for Ray Kieth's Dread imprint to more introspective, moody "liquid", all with a natural flair for melody and emotion that hints at a much deeper musical soul.  "Street Lights"  goes straight in with warm synth washes and early morning ambiance while a finely tuned amen filters in building to a floor shattering, room filling bass line.  Distant female crooning echoes and reverberates over head drawing you deeper into the void while the "Good Looking"  informed atmospherics soothe your body from the relentless rumble of the brooding low end frequencies.  The piece breaks down into more speaker testing 40 hz rattle before rolling back out into space for the head down, eyes shut crew.

We are putting an emphasis on ‘composer’ as by now you have probably heard his “Memento Mori Ep” and it’s title song. For the A side he brings you the truly skullstepian “Desert Sun” which has been destroying opera houses all over europe. The flip “Prodia” is more waltz oriented with a triple grid that will not allow you to stand still for a nanosecond!

Krakota, one of Hospital Records’ most electrifying DJs, returns to the fold after his incredible debut album ‘Strange System’ with his long-awaited ‘See For Miles’ EP. More than ever before, his production provides a versatile set of drum & bass styles with a devilish 5-track concoction of upfront danger and liquid grace.

Kicking the EP straight into gear is the absolute screamer ‘Hot Rain’. Prepare for this track to steamroll through a system with its relentless bassline and rare vocal feature from Reprazent legend and Hospital hype-man Dynamite MC.

A turbo-charged thunderbolt strikes with ‘Mismatch’ proving once again, more cowbell is always a good decision. This smorgasboard of bass sonics is Krakota’s peak-time dancefloor filler. On the flip-side ‘Call Back’ rolls out smoother than butter, adding funk flavours to the EP and makes for the perfect juxtaposition to his full-throttle bangers.

Keeping up the tempo is another weapon for the club ‘Fever Dreams’. Wobbly sub and rugged mid-range bass notes work together in this up-front stepper. The final and title track ‘See for Miles’ sees this release home with elegance and grace. Depth, musicality, exquisite progression and a humming bassline.

Hospital Records proudly presents the debut long-player from the illusive and ingenious Mitekiss. Flirting with an array of drum & bass styles, ‘Crate Six Seven’ inhabits the deeper realms of liquid-jazz, soul and ambient jungle across 14 tracks.

The album’s title track encapsulates the essence of Mitekiss’ well-known style with soothing tones and a hypnotic percussion guiding the track, along with the enchanting ‘Hutan’, with its silky and delicately soft sonics.

Taking a darker turn is the murky apparition, ‘Lenz’ that’s fuelled by the ominous, supernatural vocals of Mr Porter. Embracing the roots of its craft, ‘Human’ takes the form of a vintage amen weapon. It’s dancefloor friendly but doesn’t shy away from the oldskool atmospherics that elevate it to future-classic status.

Mitekiss may have his trademark deep-liquid flair but ‘Crate Six Seven’ cements his versatility with stunning vocal tracks ‘Another Sad Song’ and ‘Viewpoint’, through to the curiously creative ‘Straw Man’. Collaborations with the likes of Emer Dineen, Mr Porter, Naibu and Emeliene Chouadossi highlight the breadth of styles within Mitekiss’s repertoire. With exciting live performance prospects on the horizon this production paragon has exceeded all expectation with what is undoubtedly one of the finest D+B albums of the year.

Lowriderz, fresh out of the jungle war comes another heavy slab of unfiltered breakbeat goodness in the form of the ‘Underwater EP’. Featuring the vocals of Russian Dancehall and Reggae MC, Steppa Style, this is another wicked release from the Serial Killaz offshoot label Street Life which once again shows how dedicated these guys are to authenticity.

Lead vocals from the one like Steppa Style kickstart proceedings straight away featuring one hell of a catchy hook that will have crowds chanting for days. ‘Underwater’ is a direct onslaught on the senses with a ton of mashed up breakbeats, dub effects and a short ranged lead bassline that bangs.

‘Eva Load’ delivers some real lyrically education. A great feel good message, excellent double timing all wrapped up in glossy production that this dynamic duo are well known for.

Reminiscent of ‘94 yet as upfront as you could possibly wish for. Street Life and its artists really are a winning combination for die hard junglists of all ages.

Both ‘Capital’ and ‘Come Nah’ are equally as incisive as his previous work, yet show a different side.  A man of few words, M-Set lets his production do the talking.  ‘Capital’ begins with an introduction that gradually pulls us into a weighty drop, then down through a bassline anchored with an almost impossibly low tone. Each pad and embellishment floats effortlessly into the next, while stabs and slices add a gritty element to the atmosphere. Rolling break layers carry you into the core and we gradually succumb to the lazy rhythm. ‘Capital’ is a cut that could easily place itself in the choppier waters of late-night sets, a primary reason why M-Set material is a sought after addition for any DJ or club space.

The reverse, ‘Come Nah’, is just as dynamic in its motions, featuring the trademark keys that help unlock a musicality and a jazzy undertone which counteracts its heavier elements.
