Mossmoss (aka Mattie Bowen) is a Scottish born dj and producer with an intense interest in explorative music. With a keen ear and eye for detail, he is an artist by nature. His wandering sets paint landscapes of light and dark patterns, textures, and strange melody. Mattie's inspiration draws from the organic details of existence, the tiny pieces most overlook in exchange for the big-picture rush of an ever changing modern world. His mind deeply set to explore these facets and to share his exploration in all forms to those that might look and listen. Mossmoss currently resides San Francisco and draws on The City and its colorful nightlife for constant immersive inspiration.


Been spinning a long time, 29 years, more than half my life.  Have spun nearly every genre, have vacillated between taking this very seriously and not giving a fuck.  It is more than a hobby, this is integrating an artistic conversation spanning the globe and it is my passion.  This particular conversation we’ve been having in the Deep (house/tech/breaks) arena is particularly dope, and I’m excited to be a participant by spinning & producing that which moves my ass and soul, and raises my hands to the sky.  If asked, I'll say I spin Swamp music... humid Deep House/Breaks/Tech with vivid palates. &#13;

Mixing is my zen-state.  It isn’t an intentional act as much as it is communion with sound, with the muse.  I don’t plan Sets.  My mantra is the ‘right song at the right time’, and you’re never going to answer that question until you’re in the moment.  I kicked the vinyl habit in ‘05, but I still use CDJs..  You can hear the excitement in a live-mixed set, when there’s no net, when the DJ is a sneeze away from a trainwreck.  I like a slippery beat or two, to flash your cards, to show this is real, this is Now, and we’re deep in it, together.  I also only like to mix deep, 3 mins or so.  It isn’t deep music unless you mix it deep, over your head in sounds, dancing with them as if Tai Chi, rolling them into another as if an Akido master.  The tracks dictate how they want to be mixed, the moment dictates what energy wants to emerge next; a DJ isn’t there to be intentional, we’re supposed to be receptive. A dear friend told me my sets felt like you never knew where you're going, but were always happy when you got there. As a Groove Guardian creating AuralSonic Journeys, I could not ask for higher praise.

Music is a special language I have experienced, practiced and absorbed my entire life. And now in my "Golden Years", I practice this complex craft using the simplest of tools and as little FX as possible. Less is so much more. I avoid artificially contrived tension and release, and prefer to let music express what is already inherent; if it works, don't fix it.

My Dad was a Choir Master and Music Director (from the Royal School of Church Music in London, England). I grew up listening to him playing the piano every day. He started me singing at age 7 (1963), and for the ensuing three decades, I was immersed and trained in music structure, classical history, sight-reading and singing in quartets, sextets, octets, madrigals, Gregorian chants, school choruses, professional chorales and soloist in the sacred circuits of LA. 

In 1968, I was collecting first-issue releases from the Turtles and the Beatles. I graduated Santa Monica High School in 1974, and  was programming house party mix tapes on cassette tape. Of course it was very linear, but even then I was thinking outside the box. With the advent of DAW’s, it’s a whole new world!

Today, it’s about inspiring and uplifting people through music's universal language. It’s about feelings and passion using an eclectic mix of genres and styles, new, old, obscure and popular. I want to set free your heart, your mind and your body. 

Burning Man and Sweets Ballroom – not to mention the Dungeons and Play Spaces in San Francisco & Oakland – have irrevocably altered my musical DNA. The new, expanding universe of Ecstatic Dance journeys feels like a natural fit, and I incorporate its tenants into every set I create.

Enter Dulce Vita (pronounced dol-sie/vee-tah). Nationally requested, dance floor approved! In direct response to specific performances at Burning Man, she has been invited to rock stages in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Seattle, Portland, Boise, San Diego.  As a DJ performer in San Francisco, how does DV stand out? True individuality happens here as a result of a musical risk. Using the cross fader as her primary canvas with a signature brand of aggressive intent, she performs a sound all her own - an energetic soundscape peppered with loads of texture, chunk, and curious desires you never knew you had across breakbeats, bass house, tech house,  melodic techno, electro, organic house, world beats, downtempo, and bass music.  Emotion evoking dance music is quintessential DV.

Dulce considers any single performance a personal success if she can make a deeply positive impact on at least one person's experience. Since her debut performance at Google headquarters in 2004, you might have already experienced her audio collage of eclectic tracks at underground warehouse venues or major nightclubs such as The Midway, Public Works, The Great Northern, Monarch, Temple.  In the past, Dulce was named WINNER of SF Weekly: City of Spin 2009 (Annual DJ Competition) and her performance at Burning Man earned a prestigious mention in international publication 'DJ Mag' within the 2008 issue featuring Top 100.

Over the years, Dulce has held down numerous DJ residencies based in San Francisco. In 2006, she was proud to be selected as the first female to be affiliated with 'OPULENT TEMPLE' (the infamous large-scale sound camp at Burning Man featuring world class DJs on over 300,000 watts). In 2009, she was invited to wobble out with 'CALIFORNIA DUBSTEP REPUBLIC', a collective of performers who provided the first ever Dubstep float in San Francisco's equivalent of a large scale EDM festival like Love Parade. That year also debuted her solo event production alias: 'DVANT GARDE'. DV created a new breed of event (known as 'Womper Womb') showcasing dubstep, glitch, and breaks with all female DJ talent from Burning Man. Dulce Vita booked nearly 100 performances as a DJ in 2009.  

In 2010, she gained a new monthly residency with 'BELOW ZERO', featuring downtempo, chillout, trip-hop, and IDM.  'UNDERGROUND NOMADS' was introduced in 2013, a weekly show featuring global bass and world step in combination with belly dance performance. Dulce spent many years feeling at home within the Northern California campout and  invitational festival circuit involving Burning Man communities. In 2020, Dulce became officially affiliated with 'STRATEGIK SF'.  Burning Man community based groups she has performed with over the years also include: DUCK POND, ROOT SOCIETY, DISTRIKT, HOOKADOME, SPACE COWBOYS, DUSTY RHINO, BRASS TAX, FLAMING LOTUS GIRLS, SLUT GARDEN, DISORIENT, DANCETRONAUTS, SACRED SPACES, BASS CAMP, NEXUS, OSIRIS, BMIR.  

Dulce has also provided A&R representation in past at Winter Music Conference in Miami for two Oakland based labels, Mizumo Music (tech, filtered disco, and electro house) and Funky Cactus Recordings (big beat and nu skool breaks).. Her actual birth name is Dulce Vita.

Skysia, emerging from Denver's dynamic music scene, is a standout artist renowned for his unique blend of ethereal, organic, and melodic sounds with a new focus on sound design and bass.
