Sometime in the late 20th I had a radio show on WOBC dedicated to the hilariously conflicted genre known as contemporary classical music.  I'm not sure who the buyer was for the WOBC library, but I was thrilled to find a handful of 20th century harpsichord releases which I still treasure to this day. 

The Finnish composer and keyboardist Jukka Tiensuu put out two albums in quick succession: "The Fantastic Harpsichord" followed by "The Exuberant Harpsichord", which are featured here.

The primary exponent of contemporary harpsichord, Polish harpsichordist Elisabeth Chojnacka, recorded music for decades and was even welcomed to the San Francisco Symphony stage by Michael Tilson Thomas.  I was, of course, on the front row.

American composer Barbara Harbach put together a truly lovely and highly accessible collection of works in an album simply titled "20th Century Harpsichord Music".

Turning over the leaf of the new year, Abstract without Abstraction is honored to present its first guest mix of the 2018, presented by @dj_leesh! Leesh, also known as Alicia Greco, is a writer, DJ and organizer originally hailing from Buffalo, NY, one of the newest members of Chicago's NBFC (Naughty Bad Fun Collective), and the driving force behind a number of platforms charting the pathways and affinities of underground house & techno in North America and celebrating intersectionality in dance music: @enterthesequencer & the newly launched @daisychain_podcast podcast. 

In her all-vinyl debut mix, Leesh takes us directly into the hypnagogic, ecstatic heart of the drum. We couldn't imagine a better way to enter the year of the dog- that is- the year of companionship. It is the companionship that Leesh embodies with the metaphor of the Daisychain- connecting up circuitry, identities, struggles, and livelihoods to form a symbiotic network of female-id, trans, cis women, and nonbinary folks from all backgrounds, both within and beyond our defined queer communities. Stop, and listen deeper.
