As Abstract without Abstraction was coming into being, there were a handful of projects that served as direct inspiration for the series; projects that sought to voice the sonic perspectives of the rich, diverse worlds of exploratory dance music and experimental electronic sounds flowering in the otherwise oppressive and increasingly violent, fascist wasteland of twenty-first century Turtle Island. Of those, Acid Daddy's DIESELcast is exemplary. In that light, it is an honor and privilege to present a two-and-a-half hour excursion mixed by @dieselcast's head curator Acid Daddy (@mynameisjarvi) themselves.

jarvi (aka Acid Daddy) is a Detroit-born, Chicago-based DJ, organizer, label head (at the recently launched @identityspectrumrecords), and member of the Naughty Bad Fun Collective crew. Above, beyond, and because of those things, jarvi is also a vocal proponent of discourse on non-binary identity (see a recent feature at the Sequencer series, here: http://sequencer.club/sequencer-spotlight-jarvi/) and Taurean gardener, catalyzing and tending to spaces (sound-space, event-space, relationship-space) where queer energies of acceptance, being, and becoming can flourish. In their contribution to AW/OA, "Wandering Through the Swamp of Sadness", we are given glimpse into their vision of mix-as-worldmaking; mix-as-portal; mix-as-reconciliation and therapeutic return. For the next two-and-a-half hours, remember that when we listen, we are given the right to inhabit whatever times and spaces we desire, wandering outside of those prescribed by the ruling class, and that wandering is often how we find our way.

drawing from early musical influences including Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Bauhaus, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, New Order, The Cure, Tears For Fears and of course the strange and beautiful music of Kraftwerk, James has remained dedicated to the art of digging and performing as a DJ for nearly three decades. Starting his first weekly DJ residency as well as a live mixed radio show in 2001 at WNUR 89.3FM, he has played at several hundred gigs in Chicago, around the midwest as well as in Detroit, Miami (WMC), San Francisco (Spundae, Loveparade) and internationally as well including Sydney & Melbourne/AUS, Tokyo/JP, London/UK, Mexico, Canada, Bulgaria, Serbia and elsewhere. He has booked, promoted and organized major events and has opened for many pioneering and influential artists including Juan Atkins, Ritchie Hawtin, Chris Liebing, Satoshi Tomiie, John Digweed, James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Richard Fearless (Death in Vegas), Claude Young, Derrick Carter, Diplo, John Tejada, Phil K, Steve Lawler, Sandra Collins, Paul Oakenfold, The Crystal Method, Way Out West, BT, Paul Oakenfold & others..
Re-locating from downtown Chicago to Los Angeles in early 2013, James enjoys the chance to share his love for real house music, detroit inspired house-techno, acid house, electro, ambient, dub and other properly heady dance music. His dedication to the rich musical roots of Chicago, Detroit, Berlin can be heard (and felt) in his dynamic vinyl DJ sets as well as live performance.

His passion for the music is also extended through to his his ongoing studio efforts and DIY analog-style productions, remixes and collaborations..
