The Grey Area mix is a collection of celebral minimalism from which is a speciality of Robert Hood.   Never before has there been an illustration of the many values of "grey" within the genre we call Minimal.
While Minimal is now a sound all on its own which varies from region to region, deep concentration takes you through the mind of one of it's pioneers for a close analysis of this particular variation. The Grey Area.

*Individually numbered and signed copies - Rob Hood at his absolute deepest. 300 copies only for the world!!!* Original minimal master Robert Hood follows up his essential Fabric set from earlier this year with an exclusive and insanely limited mix CD drawing for a specialized run of purified Detroit/Berlin deep and dubby techno. The Grey Area title refers to Rob's vision of Detroit techno and electronic music as the sound that occupied the forgotten zones of Detroit, the areas that became utilised for warehouse parties back in the day, and still humm and whirr with the timeless sound of technology long after the actual heavy indutry has gone. There's a soulfully longing thread tying the tracks together, from the opening anonymous tracks to Maurizio's 'M4.5' and on into previously unobserved depths with a slew of exclsuive and unreleased M-Plant style killers this is eactly the kind of selection that has won Mr. Hood a legion of devoted fans across the world, and has massively influenced the sound of the scene's biggest clubs, with Dettmann and Klock's brand of stripped but powerful techno house owing a massive debt to his sound. We're struggling to name many of the tracks here which is one of the best features of this mix, it's so fresh much of it hasn't even seen the light of day yet but we'd be massively grateful if any of the keener ears out there (or Hood himself) would like to send us a tracklist! Especially track 14, or 17, or 21, what the f**k are they?! If the Fabric mix left you asking for something that little bit deeper and nastier you can't sleep on this righteous mix. Amsterdam’s Ratherlost crew has spent the past few years perfecting the art of the marathon rave. Their home base is Lofi, a cavernous warehouse where sound, light, and visuals fuse into long-haul journeys that stretch well past the 18-hour mark. But epic runtimes mean nothing without the right hands at the controls, and Ratherlost has proven it knows how to curate, pace, and execute like pros.

Lofi’s two-floor setup allows for shifting moods: daylight hours wander through deep, dubby techno, slowly morphing into faster, syncopated rhythms as night tightens its grip. Pacing is everything in a space like this. And when it comes to the craft of pacing, few do it better than Bas Dobbelaer.

Bas is one of our favorite DJs for a reason. He understands that a warm-up set is an architecture rather than just background noise. It shapes the room, sets the tone, and welcomes dancers into the story. The mix we’re thrilled to share today was recorded live at Ratherlost’s Easter Sunday session at Lofi, where Bas shared the bill with artists like Aaron J, Na Nich & Vera Logdanidi, Aurora Halal, DVS1, upsammy, Occa, Agonis, Dasha Rush, Seb H, and Oscar Mulero. Quite the roster.

In the face of that stacked lineup, Bas delivered a masterclass in restraint and elegance. His three-hour set unfolds like a novel, tracing dub techno’s DNA across the past two decades. The vibe is timeless, spacious, and beautifully measured, a perfect example of how to warm up a warehouse without blowing the doors off too soon.
This is precisely the kind of DJing we live for: subtle yet commanding, hypnotic yet full of life. Clear your next 180 minutes. Plug in. And get a little Ratherlost yourself.

The haze of Paral·lel festival has barely lifted, but we’re rewinding to another moment worth lingering on, February in Granada, at the Moonback club. There, under the warm glow of the Extramostra banner, Mostra linked up with the Klub Collective for a night that balanced local soul with an international touch. The lineup reads like a heads-only dream: Timnah, Antonio Vázquez, Refracted, and a solid core of Klub Collective residents including Fran Acosta, Kaizen, and Utopian. The kind of night that reminded us why the first slot matters more than most people admit. It’s the architectural role: shaping the night’s flow from zero.

Utopian did just that. His set unfolds like a slow exhale, dub-laced ambient that creeps, swells, and gradually transforms into chugging, low-slung techno hypnosis. It’s a patient climb: syncopated, restrained, precise. Not a single cheap move, just deep focus and floor logic, the kind that sets the table without stealing the meal. But make no mistake, this was a statement. A warm-up that didn’t just support the night, but elevated it.

In my club sets I am always looking for a balance between repetitive beats that soak you up and make dance floors move like one body, and breaks and experiments that keep things interesting. This beautiful track full of weird sounds really works for that. Not only it's an amazing track, it is also a very important message. I don’t want to take up too much space on this platform that is also used by P4lest1n14ns to show the world the unimaginable horror and injustice that is done to them, without pointing that out once more.

Axaminer Podcast 009 - Ohrwert ( NL )

Our 41st podcast comes from techno producer Voiski, who is a close associate of experimental label Silicate Musique, is part of Field Records duo Kartei and is also a regular on LIES and WT Records. His techno sound veers from off kilter and odd to more dance floor focussed, and is never short on intrigue. Characterised by infinitely repetitive loops and acerbic drums, his often analog tracks look to the future for their inspiration and always manage to be cerebral yet hypnotic. 

The mix he has served up for us is mostly made of old personal classics and or new tracks made by friends. “Intimate, glimmery and a bit strong,” says Voiski, the mix is a perfect one for this time of year and has some “heartwarming 90s trance to smile at with some solid techno to dance to.” He’s not wrong there, because this is an absorbing selection that might well surprise you with some of the more fun and sunny inclusions early on, but as things move on that deep, heady, hypnotic Voiski sound soon wins out with smooth coherent transitions that sound just like an extended track by the man himself.
