At the very hub of this wheel which is falling apart, is Beauty. And it will keep on rolling until everything that has gone to make up the wheel has disintegrated. It has already rolled over a goodly portion of the globe, over Persia and India and China, and like a magnet he has attached to itself microscopic particles from Kurd, Baluchistan, Timbuktu, Somaliland, Angkor, Tierra del Fuego. The odalisques it has studded with malachite and jasper, their flesh veiled with a thousand eyes, perfumed eyes dipped in the sperm of whales. Wherever a breeze stirs there are breasts as cool as jelly, white pigeons come to flutter and rut in the ice-blue veins of the Himalayas. The wallpaper with which the men of science have covered the world of reality is falling to tatters. The grand whorehouse which they have made of life requires no decoration; it is essential only that the drains function adequately. Beauty, that feline beauty which has us by the balls all around the world, is finished. To fathom the new reality it is first necessary to dismantle the drains, to lay open the gangrened ducts which compose the genito-urinary system that supplies the excreta of art. Have you ever gotten lost in thoughts and dreams while gazing at the night sky? Those celestial bodies sparkling in the deep dark blue have caught our attention and driven intrepid explorations since the dawn of time. The mysterious immensity surrounding our beautiful little planet has always stimulated our fantasies: scientists and philosophers have found challenges in it, while artists have found nourishment for their creativity. Our talented friend mUnO seems to fall in the latter category, since he told us that astronomy, the night sky and the concept of infinity itself, serves as the inspiration to create ‘cosmic soup’, which is the way he describes his own sound. mUnO is the borderless project in constant evolution, launched in 2015 by Gonzalo Urtizberea, also known as Gurtz and 1/2 of Kermesse. Gurtz formed mUnO as a way to express himself without stylistic constraints and to experiment with new instruments and samples. His latest EP, Mareas, meaning ‘tides’ in Spanish, includes two enchantingly melodic original tracks and four lively vibrant remixes by none other than Lagartijeando, Vruno, Betelgeize, and Señora. The beautifully diverse styles brought by these incredible artists blend perfectly with the motifs of the originals, adding some spicy beats to the cosmic soup. The nature of the arts is one of those ancient enigmas which keeps thoughtful minds constantly philosophizing on its power. The mystery of art is deepened by the fact that inspiration can burst at anytime; any sound or fleeting glance can trigger a masterpiece. How can that be explained? We don’t know, and maybe we never will, but what matters to us is tending to that inspiration, and the conditions in which it thrives. This is the story of MA, the latest EP by Batu Ozer, which we are happy to bring to our listeners today. Old recordings of saz or string instruments resembling long-necked lutes, triggered the creative genius of the artist, and five new aural gems were the result.
The title of the album means “water” in ancient Turkish language. Its sonorities and motives evoke the elegance and preciousness of the old Anatolian history. Sounds of spilling water remind us of the fountains found in the courtyards and gardens of gilded palaces. Gentle choirs blend with lutes and finger percussion, effectively transporting us to the public intimacy of the ‘Arfana’: the public musical gatherings of the old times. All of the artist’s productions reflect this ancient beauty, which skillfully revisits and elaborates with electronic effects, resulting in a timeless weave of antiquity and modernity.

When the Corona plague began, writing and composing music was for me an unrealized fantasy. At the beginning of the first closure I decided to take action, I learned the basics of music in a zoom class and hundreds of hours of online learning and doing that fills my soul with indescribable happiness. For half a year now, in every spare moment I have been studying, writing and trying to create and discovering each time how little my knowledge is and how much more there is to learn, and every such discovery fills me with happiness.
My dream was to take the melodies and piyyutim that I love so much and compose them with pleasant beats. The road is still long as mentioned, but it was two weeks ago, at 1 o'clock at night, when I suddenly hear the slichot emanating from the synagogue in front of my house. And I, who was a Spanish-style cantor and so fond of Slichot poems, did not remain indifferent, sat down in front of a microphone, recorded myself, and began to create on the recording. It was the first time in my life that I find myself falling apart crying during some piece of work, while hearing the powerful text thousands of times. So in the run-up to Rosh Hashanah, I am currently gathering courage, and for the first time raising the work in the process (premix) taken from the Slichot and the statement that - "My Lord is God".
