Plafond continues, taking center stage after the mother label BAKK ceded. Here, two long-time collaborators, Ekolali, originating from Sweden, and Tala Drum Corps, from the Netherlands, await their returns. The former reappears with a characteristic approach earlier heard on 'Doggerland'. The latter did multiple dance releases yet now debuts for this series, expanding on his stylistic spectrum. 

Despite shared tempo, the energies of the track are each of their own. Pulsating with energetic urgency, Ekolali, towards hypnotic movement, Tala Drum Corps. 'Totem Mollusca' shoots for the sun, like a budding landscape, yellow rays, waterdrops – kraut-inspired yet club-like without seeking a climax. 'tokyo subway' has a marimba-ridden, timeless feel – a clock-ticking, crude atmosphere, as a dream long passed, slowly ascending. 

Known for its two-sided, two-songs format, Plafond offers two artists or artist combinations the freeform room for exploration and elongation of their respective sound and practices. This is the eighth in the series.

Nachtdigital Mint marks the last edition of Nachtdigital Festival: After more than two decades it is time for a change. Over the course of the past eight years, Nachtdigital has given birth to a dozen releases in various formats. "Nachtdigital Mint" is the final statement - a return to the roots, in its most accomplished form.

Starting with a single 10inch release in 2011, the Nachtdigital label has evolved both musically and visually. 2017 saw the release of the first double LP with gatefold cover - a format that since has become the preferred mode of operation. For the last two years, Nachtdigital has focussed primarily on commissioned works, with thematically curated releases. The "Nachtdigital Mint" compilation marks the return to the original idea of the label: To compile tracks from artists of this year’s festival program, without much fuzz about conceptual works. The result is refreshingly energetic and gives a glimpse into the heterogeneous sound of the festival itself: Combining young talents with accomplished producers, raw sounds with dreamy delicacies. Side D was compiled in collaboration with Prague’s club institution Ankali - a fitting closing statement, as collaborations are what Nachtdigital has always been about.

Classicworks' Co-founder Nehuen brings an hour of rare forgotten oddities. The Barcelona based producer sculpts a mix composed of material taken exclusively from The Noise-Arch, a compilation of digitalized underground/independently-released cassette tapes from Internet Archive.

The driving force behind the mix was the desire to explore and document areas of music fallen into oblivion - to shine a light into the darkest corners of vibrations long forgotten.

This year will see Rabbit Island finally remaster and reissue one of her earliest recorded works, 'Songs for Kids'. 

The album is made up of fifteen tracks, recorded to tape by Amber in a kitchen in 2013. The selections range from new takes on traditional lullabies to incredibly powerful and simple ruminations on our world and the social systems we have built, like in 'All the Colours Are Good Colours' and 'Some Days Are Harder Days'. 

The result is startling. It is a beautiful record, so clearly and simply presented, and made all the more elegant thanks to the steady stream of tape hiss, or the sound of nylon strings buzzing against the stone walls of an empty bedroom. 

While 'Songs for Kids' draws on old material, it’s release couldn’t be more timely. After a devastating summer in Australia, perhaps the first in which mainstream audiences finally acknowledged the all-to-real effects of climate change, this collection of songs deals a powerful blow. After years of being faced for years by an Australian people with a stubborn refusal to listen, it seems that Amber Fresh has resorted to the simplest and most reliable method she knows to get her message across - writing songs for kids. 

'Songs for Kids' is out April 24, 2020 via Bedroom Suck Records.

Plafond enters its second decade with Cucina Povera and Haron fusing the folkloric and futurist. Maria Rossi and Haron Aumaj (real names) honour musical cinematism on ‘Riffittelyä’, which slowly unfolds during a twenty-two minute trail of exploration, angst and redemption. Meddling voices pinch through an aural mist, Kubrickesque strings impend and cathedral organs relevate. Most striking is the compatibility of Rossi’s tangibility and Aumaj’s computerisation, seamlessly forming a renewed dynamic, as granular as it is loose in texture.

During this unique first collaboration it can be quickly forgotten both artists have highly distinctive styles. We are reminded of these singularities on the other half of the record, featuring two solo works, both rich yet contrasting in their colour and emotion. On ‘Maandag, Spiegeldag’, Aumaj sketches in orange chromatics, a featherweight composition that feels far away from the greyscale fragility that Rossi portrays on ‘Ajatus’. Showcasing two minimalist artists catapulted by their stunning debut albums, this sixth Plafond keeps the listener in constant awe, pointing us to the endless potential of spontaneity.

Comes in Pantone printed outer sleeve with deep red and yellow topped with a silk screened black and a soft pink inner sleeve, wrapped in a dreamy blue Obi-strip printed with white and black, by the BAKK Fuzz Factory.

Maxx Mann were the gay New Wave duo of Frank Oldham Jr (vocals, lyrics) and Paul Hamman (music) from New York City formed in 1981. Frank studied voice and acting at the Herbert Bergdorf School idolizing Eartha Kitt, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mathis and Shirley Bassey. Paul was playing piano for a cabaret singer at a bar in Greenwich Village where Frank met him and their friendship began. Paul and Frank worked together 3 to 4 times a week recording their debut self-titled album released in 1982, limited to 500 copies. Songs provide interesting insights into the homosexual experience before the AIDS crisis: cruising backroom bars, BDSM and one-night stands. The music is "Neo-realistic rock" heavily influenced by punk, titillating, synthesized body and soul with Frank’s dramatized vocal stylings. The original press release sent to radio stations stated, "Because this is a completely innovative sound, we hope you will give it several listenings. It is adventurous, daring, and certain to cause reactions from your listeners.” For this first time vinyl reissue we’ve added two bonus instrumental tracks, so the album now contains all four original vocal cuts and their corresponding instrumental versions. Paul sadly passed away in 1986 aged 33 from AIDS-related illness and we dedicate this reissue to him. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. Each vinyl copy is housed in an exact replica of the 1982 jacket and includes a fold-post poster with photos, lyrics and notes by Frank Oldham Jr.

Mannequin Records is delighted to present the fourth full length of Polices des moeurs, the Canadian minimal synth duo formed by Francis Dugas and Manuelle Gauthier.

With PÉRIL, Police des moeurs expands its sound and ventures into mysterious, bewitchingand enigmatic landscapes. The foundation is still synthetic, minimal and punchy, relying on mechanical rhythm, powerful bass and catchy melodies, but it's now combined with more elaborate arrangements, punctuated by delicate textures and depthful laments with uncertain but sincere meanings.

Formed in 2010 in Montreal, Police des moeurs got noticed right from the start with its infectious and direct synth pop. The band has released several recordings, including Péril, their fourth full lenght album on Berlin's Mannequin Records. The Canadian group has performed in Mexico, United States, as well as in ten European countries, and has share the stage with The Damned, ADULT., TR / ST, Xeno & Oaklander, Automelodi, Essaie Pas, Xarah Dion, Duchess Says, to name a few.

i actually remember loving his cover&logo art!  i picked up on these classy details right away. voodoo dilate was ghoulish fun! he knew exactly what to do and how to approach the lyrical psychedelia. most producers would not have dared to drift that far from their backyard! the song is an ode to jean michel basquiat, and the fact that the underground music industry (still) seems to think that i am this dark reclusive voodoo priest. i still await our next cocktail, mr. menace! Haron’s Taxa EP dips into a world of fizzing electronics and draws from it four potent club mutations.

Having explored spacious ambient on 2018’s well-received Wandelaar, the Dutch producer turns his attention towards full-body rhythms. These newly prepared compositions, the first club release on Queeste, are dappled with synthesised colour and unexpected timbral shifts, aligning the producer with global bass permutations while maintaining his own playful course.

The skittering dancefloor percussion of opening track ‘Drosera’ immediately signals this change in direction, leading effortlessly into the tightly coiled drums of ‘Benthos’ whose name is taken from the community of organisms that dwell on the seabed. In a nod to Wandelaar’s serene tones, the track ends with weightless ambience alongside snippets of human voices, a single moment of stillness on a release elsewhere defined by movement. ‘Pantala’ is pristine computerised dancehall teeming with disembodied samples and impressionistic swirls of noise before Taxa ends with ‘Pincertail’ whose bustling syncopations recall UK funky at its nimblest.

No less evocative than his beatless work, on this EP Haron has crafted his own idiosyncratic abstraction of club music, one imbued with joyful melodies and a giddy, pleasingly destabilising sensibility.
