One of the most talked about remixes of 2019 gets an official release as Camille Luciani’s stunning rework of The Temper Trap’s 2008 global hit ’Sweet Disposition’ comes out on Renaissance Records / BMG on 13 December. 

Camille Luciani, one of France’s brightest new dance talents, creates a stirring and highly atmospheric update of the Australian indie rock outfit’s seminal 2008 anthem, which has achieved cult status in recent years, featuring in the film ‘(500) Days of Summer’ and clocking over 260 million streams on Spotify alone. 

“I’d been a fan of the band for more than 10 years”, explains Camille, “Their music was always there for me; one day I just decided to give them something in return and chose Sweet Disposition, which is a timeless track that I always wanted to bring my vision to. So, initially it was more for fun than an official release. It was only after sending it to Dougy and Lorenzo - the band themselves - that things began to develop. I’m delighted it’s now getting an official release.” 

The remix takes the listener on an emotional journey, emphasising the brooding percussion alongside clever layering of the blissful vocal. A modern music phenomenon with his distinctive sound and prolific output, Erdi Irmak has established an exciting platform for his music with the "Hidden Arcadia" series on Proton Music. Now in its fourth incarnation, "Vol. 4" resonates with the series debut as a clutch of new original tracks mark another milestone in the Turkish artist's portfolio.

Retaining a vision for the future with a combination of cross-cultural influences that permeate through his music in a blissful wave of synthetic and organic sounds, Erdi Irmak continues to operate at the cutting edge of underground dance music with his unique approach and distinctive sound. A regular on the likes of Movement Recordings, Where The Heart Is and Balkan Connection, the Istanbul native is quickly able to harness thoughts and ideas into a rapidly growing collection of original music. Thus, his "Hidden Arcadia" series on Proton Music has come a long way since its debut release in December 2012.

"Lost Youth" opens Vol. 4 with its hypnotic percussive framework and flowing melodic passages that meander across eight-minutes with consummate ease and lightness of touch. Waxing and waning as beats drop and reappear, the relaxed groove makes for a sublime opener. Continuing with style, "The Floating Bridge of Heaven" provides the opportunity for occasional vocal phrases to pepper the nine-minute piece with a dynamic narrative that carries the track. Coupled with a rich array of musical sequences, a central arpeggio sits proudly atop proceedings giving a strong mesmerising character that works well alongside the more freeform elements. A strong kick and trademark acoustic tom percussion find "The Moment" blending elegantly beside emotive piano chord progressions. With its soulful character and rich musical narrative, Irmak's inherent craftsmanship shines through with ease as counterpoint elements blend effortlessly to create a wonderful whole.

An underlying deep house vibe infuses "The Things That I See" with its heavy kick and traditional off-beat hi-hat pattern. Acoustic guitar ripples across proceedings in partnership with intricate piano phrases as the track picks up pace with its dynamic percussion and vocal flourishes add further intrigue in an imaginative piece. A gloriously layered percussive gem finds "Vent" delighting with its combination of grooved bassline elements, plucked guitar and shimmering arpeggio. A strong glissando lead and tremelo character and adds weight and interest as all elements come together in a groove-laden joyous whole in the third movement. "Wake Up Call" draws Vol. 4 to a conclusion with its smooth bassline sequence. Shuffling hats add subtle urgency while a vibrato monophonic lead and gated analogue pad supply glorious depth. Hitting the heights in the latter stages, the combination of melody, rhythm and bass fully showcases Erdi Irmak's extraordinary talent.

She runs her hand through the foliage that follows along the trail - desire paths projected from her future self, divining the way back to the tribe. As light makes its way through the tall trees in abstract patterns, she feels her anxieties evaporating like fine mist from the waters ahead… inner peace amongst the surrounding chaos as the shadows absorb her ego. Her heart rumbles with profound rhythm, like a centrifuge of the soul.

Tunisian producer Azu Tiwaline’s track ‘Itrik’ is an undertaking of hypnotism that taps in to ancestral roots. An exploration of the contrast between light and dark, the song melds traditional North African-sentimentalities and Berber music with more contemporary electronic influences. Her focused approach to production sits glittering synths atop an undercurrent of ritualistic groove that’s enough to make anybody go native.

For our fourth edition of "Untold Stories", a series where we feature new remixes and interpretations of our back-catalogue, we invited a few very special producers from our home country - India, all making their debut appearance on the label. Please welcome Dharmalogy, Midnight Traffic, Nosh & SJ and Ninesh Babu.

After releasing on Renaissance, Choo Choo Records & more in the past, Chris Cargo made a smashing return into the scene after a decade of silence and since his debut appearance with us through the track "Crystal" (part of 'Elements - Volume 2') in 2017, he's gone on to release music on Nick Warren's "The Soundgarden", Paul Thomas' "UV", DJ Zombi's "Beat Boutique", Pena's "Flow Vinyl" & John Johnson's "ICONYC" to name a few, as well as starting up his own imprint - 'If You Wait'. Stepping up to remix "Crystal" is Hyderabad (India) based - Midnight Traffic. Relatively new but with a strong slew of productions under his belt, namely his EPs on Qilla, a collaboration with Kohra on Brian Cid's "Endangered" and his recent single on Click Records' 'Click Loves India Compilation', Midnight Traffic's work has been slowly getting the recognition it deserves. For his remix of Chris Cargo's "Crystal", he swings his strength in creating infectious grooves and hits home. A warm yet chugging low-end, crisp percussive work and the right amount of counter-harmonies to play along with the original melodic riff makes this combination a match made in heaven.
