Hey Elbow formed in 2013, and the debut single Blanca quickly made an impression and created waves in music media and on the net. The attention paved the way for gigs all over Scandinavia, London and Berlin, as well as opening for among others Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Cayucas and Color War.  

There music is another creature that strives to be free, and therefore Hey Elbow like to skip the usual genre descriptions and musical references when it comes to their creation.

The band took its name from an aerobics warm-up exercise they were taught while standing in the audience waiting for a show by The Knife. With their background in jazz and musical education, combined with an interest in noise, improvisation and freedom, they make odd and haunting pop music with a unique and personal expression. None and all of the three members are fronting the band, a democratic philosophy that gives the flugelhorn as much space as the singing, the electronics and the drums.

 "In our music the sound is at least as important as the actual compositions. We like to add little details to the mix, and they don't have to be notes, they can be just noises or hiss. They add just as much to the music as tonal things."  

They describe a liberating feeling when they started playing together, like finding something that had been waiting to take form. Their creative process is more intuitive than analytical and they don't limit themselves with thought-out stylistic moves.  

"Most of our inspiration is probably unconscious. We don't talk a lot before we write a song about how we want it to turn out, we try to just let everything happen. We have never talked about in what direction Hey Elbow should move or how we want to sound."

Atmosphere and weight, emotional charge, beautiful melodies and and a minimal restraint in combination with a joyful experimentation production-wise, are all contributing components which make it hard to forget Hey Elbow once you've heard them. Name-dropping comparisons feels superfluous, the music is powerful enough on it's own. 

The debut album was recorded in nine days, together with producer Joakim Lindberg in Studio Möllan in Malmö, Sweden.

"Save Me is about difficult situations in life… times when we are basically BEGGING for someone or something to "SAVE" us. Times when ANY solution sounds good… (any solution is better than nothing...) Usually these kinds of situations 'solve them selves' - we end up literally saving ourselves - but the song is about someone in the midst of that desperation... calling out for that elusive 'saviour.'"

Short bio:
Cole and Shpresa met on SoundCloud; where each had been uploading their music independently, in early 2012. At first, their love was simply for the other's music. That quickly turned into something more, however, and it wasn’t long before the two began a relationship on Skype which lasted more than five months. In June 2012, Shpresa flew to Cole in Minneapolis, from Stockholm, and stayed until the couple returned to Sweden two months later. It was there that Flora Cash was born.

Since that time, Flora Cash has lived, written and played in Stockholm, London and Minneapolis. They've assembled over nineteen-thousand YouTube subscribers and amassed over a million views on their videos. They've released several singles and three EPs and have recently signed with Swedish indie label, 'Icons Creating Evil Art,' with whom they'll be releasing an EP late this summer/early fall.

Time To Run is the new debut EP from rising LA pop experimentalists Lord Huron, to be released 8 October through Play It Again Sam. A joyous collision of Appalachian percussion, calypso guitars and infectious Western melodies, it's the sound of a band with the world in their music and at their feet.

With their full length debut, Lonesome Dreams, set to follow in early 2013, Time To Run is a fiercely compelling glimpse into the mind of Michigan-born Ben Schneider, who began the group as a solo endeavour in 2010, engineering everything on his first EP, Into The Sun – the music, the release, the artwork – alone. He took his stage name from the Lake Huron near his childhood home where his affinity for music began at an early age, nursed into bloom across long summer nights around the campfire.

The considerable cult acclaim that met Into The Sun inspired Schneider to seek out collaborators to turn Lord Huron into a powerful live experience, enlisting the talents of Mark Barry (percussion, vocals), Miguel Briseno (bass, percussion), Brett Farkas (guitar, vocals) and Tom Renaud (guitar, vocals). But even now, on the cusp of their first release as a full group, Lord Huron resemble more a sprawling arts collective than a band – the sharp ingenuity of their music matched by the careful attention paid to their accompanying visuals.

Case in point? The mesmerising new music video for Time To Run, conceived by Schneider in collaboration with filmmaker and close friend Evan Weinerman (Arms Race), a wickedly skewered riff on Sergio Leone's revered Spaghetti Western films, with twists that include Indonesian subtitles. “The goal was to make a video that, like the song, uses some familiar Western tropes while throwing in unique details from other genres and cultures,” says Weinerman. 

Challenging though the short film's creation was, shot in 22 hours in scorching Mojave desert temperatures of over 102 degrees, its offbeat, eclectic beauty captures perfectly the brilliance of a band with big things to come. Watch now via NPR:
