​Oakland producer Thriftworks has carved out a niche for himself in the swirled out space between hip hop and bass. Real name: J.Atlas, Thriftworks, raised in Pennsylvania, has toured with Bassnectar and STS9, leading to a chock-full schedule of dates around the world. This weekend, though, will be a special one for the long-haired bass dropper, as he headlines Lucidity Festival in California.

We need hope in times of darkness; a light to shine through to part the clouds. 

Made over the last 2/3 days, working with just the MIDI provided. The original track seemed like a synthetic orchestra in a way, so I tried to stick with that in mind with the sound design in the beginning then I’m not sure where it goes, some sort of frenetic sonic love poem to the European Union.

Not entirely sure what to add, I've just listened to it far too many times now.

Side note, my computer glitched out the entire time whilst remixing squarepusher... Ironic Dance Music

Austin native Somatoast returns with his second Gravitas album release, ‘Goop’, available now on all digital outlets. No stranger to the experimental and psychedelic realms of electronic music, Mark Rubin draws on IDM and glitch influences to provide a seven track sonic thrill ride full of visceral soundscapes and alluring melodies. Intricate sound design is his hallmark, and with finesse he effortlessly incorporates his refined palette into both dubby and downtempo frameworks.

‘Goop’ begins with “Nodus Tollens”, a smooth and laid back opener with heavy focus on ominous ambiance. The futuristic concoction “Obscurity Security” comes next, chock full of cosmic textures which perfectly set the tone for the entire album. Wonky and upbeat, “Polytricks” resets the pace before diving into the dreamy title track, a silky creation sure to send you adrift through the galaxy. “Spunning Song” builds on the celestial theme and injects velvety, groovy basslines for a funky and fluid finish. The last original offering on the album, “Robot Rain Drops”, is at times sensual and seductive, but the blissful flow is interrupted with upbeat sections peppered throughout. Wrapping up the release, remixing artist Zonra layers his abstract atmospheric style over the already sturdy foundation provided by Somatoast for his take on “Goop”.

Step into a warped dimension of stealth and intricacy and embrace the mystique of Barry Koota's debut EP, “Perception Deception”. The title track kicks things off with with a smooth and subtle stomp that seems to put the listener into the shoes of a ninja in the Sahara desert, sneakily moving along and progressing with groove and precision, combining a solid bassline with Eastern melodies. “The Yurn to Gurn” is as cheeky as the title suggests, and it takes a lot of energy not to smile whilst consuming its musical goodness. The tightness of the drums along side a defiant melody line is merged with finely plucked sample cuts to deliver the works. Hook Shot brings the EP to an energetic climax. The impeccably roaring bass sounds are complimented by ground shattering drops and weaved together with the distorted retro vibe of the track. Perception Deception is an EP that truly evolves track to track, sneaking up until it encapsulates all of your senses like you couldn't perceive. It's a very good introduction to one of Australia's most promising glitch hop talents.

The Yearn To Gurn

The first hint of life, burgeoning in the comfortable underwater world. The larva, floating, weightless, somewhat disgraceful, yet full of life, fighting ferociously for growth, for survival. Its movements rudimentary, its being simple, but its vital energy strong and the promise of the creature it is to become is well set within. The foresight of the becoming that will take place hidden by the apparent standstill of the cocoon.

With the sneakily clever and creative placement of sounds and samples that comes from making Prog as One Tasty Morsel, this project is a well-rounded product of a variety of production experiences and a large range of influences. The result is a bouncy and refined sound that progresses a lot more rapidly and subtly than many others writing at this tempo, thus pushing the boundaries and conventions of glitch-hop.
