Originally composed around 2004 for a small local theatre production. This piece tells the story of a young couple navigating the perils of World War II. While the theatre has since closed its door, I felt this piece deserved a new life. I hope you enjoy listening.

Dear Beloved

Caprice is a fantasy, original dance work for flute, oboe and string orchestra. 
I focused on keeping it a light, lyrical and whimsical dialogue for the flute and oboe and kept the strings as accompaniment with a few exceptions.

Here is the story of a little girl learning to play the violin. She struggles to play, and through her struggle she creates a new way of practicing: she imagines bringing her stuffed animal to life; a simple, Orange Elephant. He awakens, sits at a tiny piano (which is the same size as him now) and, for a moment,  plays a tune for her. She is taken by a melody, and plays it, completely enraptured by the intensity and simpleness of the piece.

The Dao cannot be spoken, nor can it be named—yet it flows through all things, giving rise to existence and shaping the universe. This piece invites the listener into a space of contemplation, where the seen and unseen intertwine, where mystery deepens with every note, and where the path to understanding lies beyond mere perception.
