Mraki is a multi-faceted artist born & raised deep within the mountains of the Ktnuxa, Sinixt, and Silyx territories of Turtle  Island. Having been a part of the local rave culture since a young one, they've been able to witness its growth, including the evolution of their own musical finesse and contributions to the community. 

Not only are they passionate about music and cultivating sound. They aim to create a platform to elevate voices and to build safe, loving & open community spaces around them that embody consent culture & harm reduction focus.

Building on several contributions to Bristol's forward thinking label Limbo Tapes and appearances at festivals across North America including Mutek, Bass Coast and Active Passive, Birthname (fka Caro) has distilled a highly textural, loop-oriented style of storytelling. Exploring relationships between various cycles of time and the body, as well as modern and mythic narratives of transgender identity during times of tumultuous political regress. 

They use computers, batteries and numerous small fuses and wires to manipulate and loop audio. They explore various means of sonic communication and self-realization through the layering of field recordings, instrumentation, voice and synthesized waveform. Disembodying and dissolving the singular into the polyphonic. 

These methods hold deep ritual significance serve a certain spiritual utility. Like any religious practice, it is an exercise in attention. 

Behind the decks weekly, then monthly since 2018, Birthname has hosted The Tea on CJLY and B.Side Radio and collaborates with Emrrld on the project Lamps.
