Each year, 24 people from around the world are assigned a time of day and tasked with creating a mix or playlist that corresponds to their designated hour. Together, we collectively create a full 24 hours of music designed to provide a soundtrack for an entire day—start to finish.

2019 - 24 Hours of Music Project

I was recently selected to take part in a project where 24 DJs were chosen to make a mix for a certain hour of the day..In the end all the mixes will be hosted in one place to provide a full day/nights soundtrack.
 I was given 2am to 3am...I figured that I would start off high energy to keep the party going but slowly progress into some weird stuff toward the end..I hope you enjoy this concoction I have made..It was fun to play some things I normally may not play out and also play some of my fav bangers...Shout out to Beau Gaerlan for bringing me in on this.

This mix -- my fourth mix for the 24hr project -- represents the hour of sunset, when day ends and night breaks.

For night break, I took the opportunity to make my most breakbeat-y mix yet. Broken beats weave in and out of four on the floor, alternating between ethereal and driving.

24 Hours of Music - 2019

00:00-01:00 : Bump and Flow

This mix — my first participation in the 24 hour mix project — represents a passage through darkness.

As a nightowl, ever since I was young, creative energy would strike like lightning in the dark of night. A siren’s song, the call to adventure from a seductive muse — I had no choice but to answer. I would set sail into the night, fueled by inspiration, determined.

During these creative benders, momentum would carry over for 2-3 hours past midnight without hesitation. And then, at some blurred point between 3 and 4, the wind would subside, the sails would empty, and storm clouds would begin to form.

04:00 – 05:00 to me has always been the most challenging hour. As delirium begins to set in, it takes the utmost effort to continue on the original charter. Tumultuous and like a tunnel with no end in sight, it truly feels like the darkest point. But it’s always darkest just before the dawn: as stillness sets in, the birds begin to wake and stormy skies clear for deliverance. 

This mix reflects the energy, weirdness, delirium and pertinacity required for that passage. Curated lovingly over late nights, I hope you find creative inspiration and beauty in this hour.

This is the 1600-1700 hour of the 2019 24 hours of music project, where 24 musical selectors each program one hour of the day.

This is the golden hour. Spring is here and summer is on the way. It’s time to step back and slow down. Pop open the window — or step outside. Round up your closest friends and pop some champagne. Bask together in sun-soaked waves of rich nostalgia, backed by this eclectic blend of of blissed out chillwave, psychedelic rock, experimental RnB, and indie dance.

This is one of my favorite annual traditions and I’m so honored to participate. Many thanks to Beau Gaerlan (@beau-gaerlan) for stewarding this year’s project, and to Kelsey Aroian for originally bringing it to life.

 The night is long and the moon’s soft glow is still strong.  Bodies are writhing around you.  You’re feeling a bit dirty.  Highs and lows have passed you in waves like the rhythms flowing in and around you.  Not everything about the night has been all you’d dreamt it might be.  Sometimes you need to work through the darkness to get to the light.
   
I’m honored to be able to create this mix for the 24HourMusic.org 2019 edition representing the 5am to 6am hour on a Saturday morning.  I share it with you and is meant to transport you through feelings from a moment of tension and darkness, whether it be in dancing on the beach, on the playa, at a dark corner of the afters, (or in your headphones-why not?)

The 9:00 pm hour is full of potential; it can be a time where you are winding down, sinking into something alone or with someone, or turning up. These tracks will have you winding through disparate moods, taking you through some sharp turns, perhaps inspiring a different path for your evening.

21:00 - 22:00 • Winding

This mix is a sunny Saturday early afternoon. You just woke up after partying last night and you’re hopping and your bike and riding to the park, where you’re meeting friends for a picnic.

13:00 - 14:00  |  Daydream Symphony

This mix is a soundscape of 13:00-14:00 hour at my favorite summer event — a mini festival on a secret beach co-created with a tight community. The music is a reflection of vibes and moods that flow through the weekend. There, at 1pm on a Saturday in July, when the sun in high and set up is in full swing, our crew is elated from being out together in stunning nature and tuning in to our adventure. I imagine firing up this set as we kick off the weekend. The music starts slow (taking it easy, as our day here had only just begun), enchanting listeners with gentle indie tracks at the start, then quickly picking up speed into mercilessly groovy territory. 

While sculpting the composition, it revealed itself to be a love story, taking me through an emotional odyssey of that which stirs, burns, and aches about love. With its spirit equal parts dreamy, sexy, and electric — ultimately soaring to mind-blowingly dancy — the mix is threaded with a mild melancholy that accompanies enamoured states at times.

The hour 13:00 permits a generously unrestrained creative license (as opposed to, say, 1AM’s imperative to drive the dance floor wild). Making this set was my first time mixing and editing music, and this freedom unleashed a breathless exploration of this medium for self-expression. I’m moved by the flow state that arranging and reconstructing tracks induces, the creative possibilities of this, the awareness it brings around navigating inner worlds, and the outcome. I’m thrilled to share this work with you.

This is a point in time bookended by the frenetic morning rush and the infinite potential of a day.
Our ritual day dream.

For this 24 hour project, I was privileged with the timeslot of 7-8pm ÐÊwith sunset at approximately 7:30pm. 

This set reflects the transitional time period of day to night, sun to moon. ItÕs the feeling of approaching the dayÕs end, watching the sun fall behind the horizon and the skyÕs colors signaling the close of one moment and the beginning of the next. The world begins to transform as the light disappears from the sky and we greet the darkness ahead. Dusk is always one of my favorite times of day, particularly on playa ÐÊitÕs an electric atmosphere filled with energy, anticipation, and excitement for the adventures to come. 

My hope with this hour of music is to take you on a journey Ð from a moment of mellow reflection into a mindset of excitement and eagerness for your evening. No matter where your day has been, no matter whether itÕs starting or end Ð this is a time to put away the day and enjoy whatÕs ahead. This is for you.
