my spirit, an ooze seeping out onto the floor
in this state of sub-being, words passed through untethered—
unintelligible, and touch was void

the device sent rippling waves through the air,
arranging it into mutating forms
they traveled inward and rebounded, inverting inside and out
wisps of feeling newly embodied pushed boldly from every pore

i watched as the shapes of people grew unimaginably
the glimmering swells were interspersed with pearls
which gradually came loose and fell
unlocked, my innermost madness unfurled into a spiraled conch

as the day darkened, the sounds became grim and hoarse
emotions scraped against each other with serrated edges
disintegrating madness into a fine lunar silt
voices came flooding, and in unison whispered: trust"

The Norman Records podcast returns after countless (two) requests and a whole bunch of baited breath! We're massively thrilled to welcome Australian post-rock crew Tangents to the fold, who have an upcoming record called 'New Bodies' on the way. If it's anywhere near as good as their last, stringently jammed masterwork 'Stateless', then we're all on a Northern Rail hype train.

Tangents' music lives for strange contradictions: jumpy in abundance, it's also buttoned down, the band playing a sort of restrained jazz aesthetic as a tease to those who want them to give in to the climaxes and math rock catharsis. Offering hints of Do Make Say Think, Jaga Jazzist and Ex-Easter Island Head, they're perpetual but never still; in this mix by bandmember Peter Hollo, they reimagine the movements and segues of their sound, effectively remixing themselves into new, unrefined contexts. It's a blast!

From David: "The humidity in Virginia is starting to move in and it's palpable. Tap the phone screen, get a read on the time, pull up the weather, see the percentage of chance of rain. There are storm drains collecting droplets you can hear every morning at the apartments across the way. I saw police busting down the door there not long ago. I saw who lives there recently. Some granola type with a guitar loaded up his Subaru before the start of the damp afternoon. Last night I had dreamed my legs went lame and I had to lay down on the floor to talk to customers at my workplace. They assured me it was okay to lay down to talk to them, but I was worried about my atrophy. Things can be really calm but alarming, like a dog with a cut on its snout. Sometimes you hear something familiar that isn't quite right. I hope this mix does this for you."
