The Floors new single Join The Fight

It’s the inevitable question any artist will ask themselves at some point in their career “Is what I’m doing worth it, or should I give up, step in line and pay rent on time? Is life about what’s good for the soul or good for the wallet?” 
Perth’s fuzzed-out punk blues outfit The Floors’ new track Join The Fight is an expression of this very topic. With an angular guitar riff featuring throughout, sledge hammer drums, driving bass and Luke Dux’s gruff vocals; this track comes together as a beautiful, messy anecdote. 

Recorded at Rada studios with engineer Dan Carroll (Kill Devil Hills, Split Seconds), Join The Fight is the lead single from The Floors sophomore album to be released in April 2016. 

“We had been jamming a bunch of new songs and is sounded like we had a record so we booked a couple of days at Rada studios with Dan (Carroll). We recorded it live, loud as fuck straight onto an 8 track tape machine. No computers.”

It’s this analogue recording combined with experimental use of effects and technique that give The Floors their unique sound and this track does not stray from the raw, fuzzed out tones we’ve come to expect from The Floors. If anything the track boasts a huge progression in writing which has come from the band taking some serious time off to focus on writing for much of 2015.

Unlike most releases from The Floors, the batch of songs from the forthcoming album have not yet been road tested at shows or on tour. This is as fresh as it gets.

Join The Fight sounds like s stampede. It’s dark, it’s loose and it’ll make you move.

Peaceful Bay is from the forthcoming debut album City West released February 5

"Peaceful Bay is a song I wrote while hiking the Bibbulmun track (a 1003 km track from Perth to Albany). Peaceful Bay is one of the only towns on the track where you camp in a settlement and not in the bush and it’s inspired by a girl a friend and I met in the townsite. She said she’d just moved down there from Perth, was pregnant and had morning sickness. We were knackered and didn’t have time to talk and properly meet her but I thougth it was a really brave and unusual move to come from the city to this tiny, isolated fishing town. So by torchlight in a hot tent I filled in the blanks and made up what I thought her story may have been and that formed the basis for the song." 

"In the studio we were going for quite a grand Augie March, Triffidsy kind of vibe. We were trying to evoke isolation and heaps of space but also the wild coastline that’s just around the corner from there. The creeky lap steel at the start reminds me of the boat ropes creeking and rubbing at night.” Davey Craddock on the writing and recording of Peaceful Bay. 

Recorded live to tape at Perth’s RADA Studios with his band The Spectacles, new single Peaceful Bay comes hot on the heels of a big 2015 for Davey which saw Better Alone, the first single from debut City West (Released Feb 5) added to rotation on Double J, extensive national radio play and touring, a WA Music Award nomination and critical acclaim from the indie folk and alt-country community -“his name has been plastered all over the blogosphere and everyone seems to be singing his praises”, said the Timber & Steel blog.
