Echo Fever is a dark, synth-driven project with Joseph Matthews as its creative engine, dedicated to exploring the intersections of trauma, desire, memory, and survival. The music blends lush, pulsing electronic landscapes with raw, confessional storytelling, inviting listeners into a world that is both painfully intimate and cinematic in scale.

This is not safe, casual listening. Echo Fever’s work confronts subjects many would rather avoid. Tracks delve into lived experiences of grooming, sexual violence, addiction, dissociation, hypersexuality, and the long, uneven process of reclaiming selfhood. The intent is never to exploit or shock for its own sake. Each song serves as testimony, giving voice to what is often left unsaid and illuminating realities rarely addressed in art.

The debut album, TRIGGERS, functions as a psychological experiment framed by music. It begins with hypnotic, club-ready production that gradually fractures into vivid portraits of mania, overdose, sexual violation, and survival. Every beat seduces and destabilizes, pulling the listener deeper until they are immersed in a narrative that refuses to look away.

The follow-up, CUT, is a conceptual narrative album chronicling one boy’s experience from the moment of coercion at fourteen through years of silence, displacement, rage, and relapse. Each track builds on the last, creating an unrelenting emotional and psychological arc grounded in brutal realism. CUT does not offer comfort or closure. It stands as a work of witness, giving voice to survivors who have endured in silence and revealing the long shadow of post-traumatic life with stark clarity.

Echo Fever is currently developing even now, a project that turns its focus to fragile queer adolescence and the bruised beauty of trying to understand love, identity, and self-worth. Still in progress, it promises to add another layer to the evolving narrative of trauma, tenderness, and reclamation that defines Echo Fever’s body of work.

These albums are not abstract. They are rooted in authentic human experiences and created with deliberate emotional intent. While financial constraints have necessitated the use of AI-generated and or AI-assisted vocals on the recordings, every lyric and composition is original and deeply personal. The urgency to give these stories voice has always outweighed the need for perfect tools. At the center of Echo Fever is a commitment to telling the truth, however fractured or uncomfortable that truth may be.

Echo Fever does not aim to provide sanctuary from hard realities. Instead, it offers an unflinching reflection of what it means to endure, to break, and to find uneasy moments of beauty in the aftermath. This is music for late nights and vulnerable spaces, for anyone who needs art that does not soften or lie.
