It is thought that 13.8 billion years ago the Universe underwent a period of rapid “inflation” in the very first moments of its existence. A big bang, a 3 dimensional ripple set forth in time creating everything we see around us, and everything that is yet to come.

Every element of every breath that was ever taken on earth is still in circulation right now in some combination or another. From the dinosaur that passed wind, to Albert Hoffmans heavy panting whilst riding his bike, you, and I are constantly respiring throughout our whole bodies and back out to into the body of the world and everything in it. A constant ripple inward and out that will continue for eternity.

In a blink of geological time, 900 years, Ancient sunlight in the form of coal was found in Europe and asia and busily extracted and burnt adding to the intensity of agricultural practices that have allowed our obese populations to balloon epically out of synch with nature.

The abundance of human food supply was, until the past few hundred years, largely determined by how much sunlight hit the ground. This is shown by our equators that are naturally teeming with life and how our poles are relatively devoid of natural life.

Every life form on the surface of this planet is here because a plant was able to gather sunlight and store it, and something else was able to eat that plant and take that sunlight-energy in to power its body.

We are therefore, all ultimately made out of sunlight. And maybe you don’t know you're a star, but you should.

So, aside from my usual electrocoustic bass-centric musical ramblings, I've been working on another project for about the past 3 years with my brother, http://soundcloud.com/brynburnell.  We call this project "Dersu Uzala", named after a russian film made in the late 70's.   It's a mish mash of live recorded piano, bass, guitar, melodica, percussion and other various soundscapes and field recordings and vocals from my good friend Malky Taylor.

Dersu Uzala - All Is Not Lost

“Liquid Geometries” sees Bluetech exploring shifting, fractal landscapes of melodic, sequenced lines using a huge range of analogue modular synthesisers. With a distinct nod to the Berlin School masters of the past he upgrades that musical heritage with nine shimmering soundscapes utilising modern production techniques to create beautiful tapestries of sound. These benefit from repeated, deep listening as there are so many details and interlaced patterns that will reveal themselves over time. Evan also invited DiN label boss Ian Boddy to perform using his distinctive Ondes Martenot analogue synth keyboard on the track “Tranquility Gate”.

A project unlike any other comes to Desert Trax this fall. Between 2009 and 2012, psychedelic bass producer Twin Shape created but left unfinished three songs that tied him inextricably to a certain time and place. As the years went on, these pieces remained rough and untouched, until he sought the help of three fellow producers to help him complete these songs.
The result is the 'Auxiliatus' EP. From the Latin to support, Alterra, Shwamp , and COAM stepped in to give Twin Shape distance, perspective, and help to revisit these original creations and give them a contemporary feel on Seeded, D&N and Glimpse, respectively. Three tightly wound compositions that have spanned nearly a decade since their inception now come to life with throbbing low end and alien implications. A strong recommendation for fans of Bird of Prey, Phutureprimitive, and Ott.

Standout Desert Trax contributor Key-G steps in for a remix of the Alterra collab, Seeded, to round out this 4-track set. The Auxiliatus EP is finally available September 13th.

From Tepoztlan (Mexico), Demian Lara is back swirling out a new full length powerful album. Deep Nature is not following the traditional album format, it's a compilation of friend collaborations, own productions and remixes of very different artists from New Zeland, US and Colombia. Also it's not following any genre specifically.
Cirqular is a reinterpretation of Bass Music subgeneres such as Halftime, Dubstep or Breaks with his own unique touch.

Behind The Sky is proud to present our 11th release, a sublime and intense document of Buchla compositions recorded live with no computer sequencing.  Moving from impressionistic ambient to proto-industrial dissonance into segments of cathartic release, the songs on this album exhibit a sophisticated approach to sound design and emotionally resonant narratives.

 

“I think about the question “Are you working with me, or against me?” a lot. Usually in regards to my relationships or most often my past self, but this time it was in the context of my instrument. There are sections of the instrument that are designed to work together, but there are points in that partnership where the two sides turn on each other and form chaos. For this album I spent a lot of time dealing with this chaos. Shaping it, fighting it, trying to reason with it. All the while asking “Are you working with me, or against me?” Eventually, by force and at times by accident, I was able to negotiate some beauty out of the chaos.
