Austrian imprint Luv Shack Records is opening up yet another chapter in 2018 by welcoming Irish House and Techno afficionado and Misfit resident Andrew Johnston AKA Moodtrax and his own-brand of super warm and brooding sound to their stable.

'Running Number' starts as a no-nonsense house track, carried by a beefy unisono bassline and a 16th note heavy drum pattern, yet it trancsends into 80s territory with the help of a deeply emotional chord progression that might just make you forget you're in a club.

The 4th edition in the acclaimed @sternsedits series sees curator @bengomori open up the Sterns Music catalogue to other keen re-editors — with Brownswood / Worldwide genius SMBD (aka @simbad) the first to step up to the plate.

Nigeria's Segun Adewale is sometimes referred to as the 'crown prince' of jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which he called yo-pop. A mixture of jùjú, funk, reggae, Afrobeat and jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record 'Ojo Je', where both these originals are taken from. 

We're premiering one of the SMBD flips of the title track — a gritty funk-fuelled 'Disco' version with live bass that is going so well with the summer we're having here in London!

Nigeria's Segun Adewale is sometimes referred to as the 'crown prince' of Jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which we called Yo-Pop. A mixture of Jùjú, Funk, Reggae, Afrobeat and Jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record 'Ojo Je', where both these originals are taken from. Here, Gomori takes the uplifting 'Atewo-Lara Ka Tepa Mo'se' for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip ready for the blend. On the flip, SMBD delivers two superb chops of the title track — a gritty Funk-fuelled 'Disco' version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. 

The stunning artwork was penned by Kofi Ankobra, who grew up in Ghana and studied art at Oshogbo, Nigeria — the place Adewale himself was born.

You know him from Studio Barnhus. He released his album on Axel Boman's label last year and a couple of hot tracks with longtime partner Mr. Tophat before that.

His first EP for Toy Tonics features 3 of the sweetest bangers he did till now. What a wonderful vibe! And the remix... Killer. By Stockholm’s amazing newcomers Mount Liberation Unlimited (who just released an EP on Permanent Vacation).

Art Alfie is busy these days: besides his involvement with Toy Tonics he started an own label (Velvet Pony). ​Even if you might know him mainly from the kick-ass dancefloor stuff he has been doing with Karlovak and the Studio Barnhus gang - there is some more complex background here: Alfie used to play in hardcore and psychedelic bands and has a real golden hand when it comes to work with musicians. In fact currently he is also producing some stuff for Swedish supergroup/hotshot band ‚Off The Meds‘!

Another very special EP on Al Zanders A to Z label! Teaming up this time with vocalist Sheyi, for a one-off foray into Broken Beat territory.The story of its inspiration begins with a trip to Notting Hill Record & Tape Exchange...

After asking for some broken beat, the assistant ventured a withering opinion that "won't be monotonous enough, try the house music section instead" Turns out it was Phil Asher of Co-op fame - who, after establishing a genuine desire for said genre - sold Al a bunch of West London music which became the influence for this EP.

Allowing Sheyi to shine over a bare bones, syncopated rhythm track on the title cut and an equally stripped down 'Satisfy' Al amps up the groove, with the G.I.T dub, which was made for IG Culture's radio show.

The name Christophe Salin may not ring a bell. For the last few years, Christophe has slipped largely under the radar. But that is about to change. After launching ‘Salin Records’ with his wife Daria Salin, the German producer has been hard at work curating a series of releases establishing the Salin-sound and paving the way for future Salin Records artists. The forthcoming ‘Will You Be There EP’ is the final instalment of the three-EP series that pays homage to the emotional side of house music. 

Sitting on the A1, our premiere ‘To Love’, offers a fitting nod to the city of love itself, offering a charming foray into the French touch soundscape. The track’s percussive, jazz infused opening has a warming innocence to it: reminiscent of an old-fashioned Romantic film or a busker bringing life to a park on a winter evening. Salin’s production is a skilful exercise in the art of simplicity. In the first breakdown, a melancholy saxophone washes over a soft piano, before being joined by some heartening drums and a hazy vocal. The same four elements are used throughout the track, but with a certain thoughtfulness and delicacy that ensures they never overstay their welcome.  It seems as though each element of the track is in conversation with the others, working together to evoke memories and emotions that remind us what it is ‘to love’.  

The emotive, jazz-infused atmosphere is sustained across the whole EP. It’s rare to find a 6-tracker that is best digested in one sitting, but listening to the ‘Will You Be There EP’ from start to finish is a rewarding, cathartic journey. This is an EP that is more fitting for the AUX on a solo late night drive than the club. It may not have been intended as so, but this is driveway music at its best: tunes that you continue to listen to well after parking your car, extending those few precious moments of solitude.

Today marks a special moment in Bolting Bits history for us. We are now lucky enough to premiere a track from our very own - Igor Bezuglov! For those that do not know, Igor is one of the major pieces that keep our music blog running behind the scenes. But being a man of many talents, he has been working on his own productions the past few months to deliver us his first tune under his alias @igorbmusic.

Titled Ponteio (which means "bridge" in Portuguese), this song is the A-side of Igor's debut record Águas de Setembro that is set to come out on Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Detroit imprint Rocksteady Disco later this month. Throughout the piece, Igor utilizes the Brazilian original's rolling bassline, impromptu instrumentation, and bittersweet vocals to capture what everyone's feeling this time of year. Although many of us understand that cold months lay ahead, we are also eager to keep the good times going no matter what - and it's this palpable optimism that makes the song the perfect soundtrack as we transition from summer into autumn across the northern hemisphere.

There was a hustle in the arena as the people began to fill each seat with a purpose. It was a randy evening and there was an eager sense of expectation in the air. The curtains hung ominously across the large sprawling stage, it would appear to be far too grand for a man of little known professionalism and hype. However, he could dance. He could move with effortless precision and skill which would wow an audience ten times over, this was but small change to a dancer of the night who had earnt his stripes amidst much rougher circumstances. 

Nachtbraker is a producer who has moved from strength to strength across the last few years. His delicate attention to detail lends itself well to the superbly crafted club focussed music he has released previously. However, his new album sees him travel across a far wider spectrum than that of which we have seen previously.

Austin Ato is Scotland’s latest next big thing. Although this alias is fairly new with releases only popping up over the last year or so on labels such as Phonica White, Futureboogie and Me Me Me, Austin’s actually a veteran who has been releasing records for over a decade under various pseudonyms. In the past, he’s released as Drums of Death, Frankie Dreams and The Slumberjack. That explains why his output already sounds so crisp and polished. His influences vary, leaning heavily towards disco but also taking bits from a multitude of sources such as afrobeat and beyond. One thing is certain though, his productions are built straight for the big room dancefloor.

His latest release, “Ella/Putting It In My Way”, forthcoming on the ever prolific Delusions of Grandeur is no different. ‘Ella’ takes a catchy disco riff and turns it upside down into a peak time stormer. The big synthy horns and mallet style percussion fit oddly well together, further evidence that Austin is not afraid to combine elements that don’t traditionally fit together. Our premiere today and the second single on the release ‘Putting It In My Way’ is a vocal bomb, combining both spoken word and the catchy hook after which it’s named. A deep sub bass and big swelling pads as well as the bloopy, percussion-heavy break only help to further cement it as another surefire party track.

If you monitor the house music scene coming out of Hong Kong, a name that you've probably heard of before is Romain Fx. For the past 10 years or so, Romain has been a key innovator in the HK scene, spearheading fresh concepts such as Roofest, the island's first rooftop festival and organizing monthly parties called ROAM in which he brings international artists such as Jayda G, Move D, Habibi Funk, Demuja to the city. Even if you're not too familiar with what is happening over that part of the world, you might even recognize him from his extensive touring in Europe, where he's played alongside the likes of Breakbot, Classixx, Kaytranada, College, Kolombo, Gigamesh, LNTG, FKJ, and many more.

In his latest effort, the French musician sets out with his Los Angeles brethren of Fantastic Voyage to release a collection of edits ranging from afro house to obscure disco cuts. The tune we're premiering for you guys today is an edit of Kamzu's song Indaba Kabani, which came out of South Africa during the early 90s. For those who love the original, you'll be happy to find out that RFX pays a lot of respect to it; choosing not to alter the original in a dramatic fashion. Instead, RFX simply makes it a tool that can easily be incorporated in DJ sets for you and me to unleash on the dancefloor! He's truly doing God's work here and we thank him for it.

Our next premiere comes to you from rhythm section aficionado Contours. After the much acclaimed Loose Wood EP back in 2016, North West is the Manchester Producer’s second release for Shall Not Fade. North West is brimming with all the delicacies we have come to expect from a Contours EP:  jazzy rhodes chords, tasty sax licks, and incredibly intricate polyrhythmic drum patterns.

Our choice cut from the EP is the title track, North West. The track opens with an airy repeating trumpet line that slowly rises much like the morning fog, as shimmering bells begin to sway around in the mix like a brisk gust on wind chimes. This eventually gives way to an entrancing conga pattern that pitters and patters like rain drops on a roof. Eventually a 2-step kick comes in and adds even further bounce to the track. On North West, Contours showcases his unique ability to fuse jazz and afro-beat influences into a pulsing thought provoking journey through a misty and grayscale terrain. When it comes to seriously good disco chuggers or edits, it’s fair to say that Orlando’s Sleazy McQueen, head honcho of Whiskey Disco and it’s sublabel Lovedancing, has the Midas touch for quite some time. Each and every record he decides to put out turns to solid black gold. Bolting Bits had an absolute pleasure to premiere tracks from two of the previous Lovedancing releases: LD03 which featured Tel Aviv’s underground beacons Rabo & Snob and LD06 which came from a French producer Closed Paradise and included masterfully crafted remixes from Texan The Silver Rider and Detroit’s Pontchartrain. It looks (and hears) like gold was struck yet again with the latest Lovedancing output. This time Sleazy is introducing Dagfest, a producer duo from Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm.

With previous releases on Ben Davis’ Paperecordings, Montreal’s Editorial records and UK’s ISM records, Dagfest should’ve found the place in the hearts and minds of cosmic funk aficionados. The latest offering from a duo comes as a 4 track vinyl with 2 original compositions and 2 remixes from NYC’s Superior Elevation Records boss Tom Noble and from Lovedancing CEO Sleazy McQueen himself.

Today Boltings Bits are happy to premiere the A1, title track of the release. “Falling in Love” is laden with funky guitars, catchy synths and a soulful vocal about one of the most beautiful feelings on Earth. “Dagfest” stands for day party in Swedish, but we are convinced that rather uptempo beat of this groover will surely provide enough charm and energy to stir and move dancefloors around the globe no matter whether it’s day, or night. The great city of Amsterdam is a place rich in culture and beauty and is especially true when it comes to electronic music. De Dam boasts talent on all fronts – home to huge festivals such as Dekmantel and ADE as well as the prominent record store, Rush Hour. Hidden deep in the cities veins is another treasure in the form of Bordello A Parigi, a record store come label sitting pretty in Oudezijds Kolk releasing and distributing outstanding music since 2011.

Next out the oven for Bordello is a gorgeous 3-track masterpiece from Berlin-based duo, Longhair. Marko and Bene have curated a distinctive sound for Longhair seemingly inspired by the electronic sounds of the 80s and more specifically similar synth driven influences that came from Italy in the 1990’s.

Following theme for their debut EP with Bordello is a synth-rich masterpiece with that Italo touch as mentioned earlier, all the while complimented by powerful kick drums and broad bass that cutting through at lightening velocity. Our undisputed favourite of the release goes to ‘Bunny’, blissful gem starting out with that all familiar bellowing kick before being quickly joined by a dancing synthline full of funk and life. Longhairs exceptional percussion-work perfectly ties the whole thing together to create a soundscape able to uplift and destress anyone at any time. This EP is an example of why we get excited every single time we get wind of a Bordello A Parigi release, be sure not to miss out on Longhair’s fantastic debut EP.

Our next premiere comes from DJ Moonbeam, and is the first drop on SITU, a newly formed Lobster Theremin sub-label. DJ Moonbeam has been known to craft hazy cuts that drift through different shades of the Deep House spectrum. Apus De Soare showcases the producers evolving sound and ability to create tunes that are as apt for the dancefloor as they are for the home. 

Our fave is the title track Apus De Soare. It’s a slow burner with massive filter swoops and stabby chord rhythms. As the track progresses, you feel yourself leaving dancefloor as you ascend out of orbit and into space. Cosmic waves of arpeggiated synths find their way careening the mix, while the thumpy bassline steadies the ship throughout its voyage. Moonbeam has honed an eclectic palette of Deep House sounds and distilled it into something uniquely his own.
