Brooklyn's Underground System are a band who have been on our radar since we caught their ace 'Just A Place EP' on Soul Clap back in 2019. A powerhouse live experience their latest release see's them land with Razor-N-Tape who are collaborating with French Label Heavenly Sweetness to deliver a series of EP's from the band.

First up is the Into The Fire EP which manages to shoehorn a variety of sounds from Afrobeat to disco to classic yet futuristic New York New Wave. It's a fascinating combination which pays off generously. The label have also drafted in French maestro Yuksek and Detroit head Andres on remix duty and both have delivered in their own inimitable styles.

Vocal Deep House Nu Disco (80's) Music Mix 2017 | By Dj N. Danelakis

20 years ago, my twin and I put on our first ever club night at Gossips nightclub in Soho. Headlining the roster was our older brother Luke (DJ Lukich as was)who played an amazing classic house set. Also playing were our mates James and Benji (now DBA label head Semtek) and an as yet undiscovered Ms. Dynamite on the mic. About 80 people showed up that night. It might not have been full, but we had a blast. 

We thought that after 20 years and a lot of good times, it was time to relive that first night, so we hired the basement of the star of kings (which except for the lack of goths was eerily similar)  and tried to create the same vibe. Theo (DJ Topcat) started us off with some classic motown and reggae, then Lukich played another  spectacular classic house set with some ropey equipment. I (DJ Mongoose as i was then) took us home with a selection of favourite tunes. it was a great night and I'm well chuffed we can share it with you. all those who were at both nights, we salute you!!!

We asked Stereo:Type about the process of making this mix, and here is what he had to say:

"When you're commissioned to make a mix for DJ Shadow, you know you have to pull something special out of the bag. Making sure it was a musical experience was as much a key part of this as making it a hype mix to listen to, considering you are working with material by a guy whose process involves finding sounds which work together as though they were made for one another. When i was approached to do this, I was asked to make the mix using material either sampled by, or remixed for or by Shadow. So Instead of making it a straight up one track into another kind of mix, I tried to approach it like a live performance, deconstructing tracks into their component parts then re-assembling and combining them with my own take on it. I certainly hope people have as much of a blast listening to it as i did making it."

Stereo:Type's DJ Shadow Re-Mixtape

In 2009, I consulted for, and appeared in, Activision's DJ Hero video game.   As part of my involvement, I performed at quite a few industry events and eventually did a couple of club dates.  Some of these sets were more rehearsed than others, and the quality varied.  This one, recorded live on Halloween night at a KCRW benefit, was far and away my favorite of the bunch...both in terms of technical display and song selection.  I'll post some of the other recorded sets later, there's some nice moments along the way.- DJ Shadow
