Finally got around to making "ver.B"

This time around, I wrote this in FamiTracker, a module editor that emulates the sound hardware of the Nintendo FamiCom and synthesizes the voice channels more faithfully. I was still able to stay within the limits of the system's hardware but still expand polyphony, thanks to MMC5, which simply adds two more square-wave voice channels.

While I may not have had as active an interest in Mr. Iwata as some others may have, I will surely miss him like all of us will. Let us take this opportunity to commemorate and celebrate everything he has done.

In 2013, I got the opportunity to work with the Gamer Symphony Orchestra at UMD. I arranged a medley of music from Kid Icarus (NES, 1986), and they performed it in what would be my orchestral premiere.

Kid Icarus (Orchestral Arrangement)

Kid Icarus Uprising- ThunderCloud Temple- Evan King

This is the high-score music from the C64 version of Commando.  It has been recreated entirely on the Casio VL-TONE VL-1.   All of the sounds are from the VL-1.  The only "cheating" that was done is I removed the "beep" sounds from the drum track in post-processing so that you only hear the snare.  

Audacity was used to record and mix 4 separate tracks.  I also used the VL-TONE's built-in synth to create a custom bass instrument and background music.  The standard flute is used for the main melody.

Commando Performed on Casio VL-TONE Keyboard

This was my first attempt at playing with FamiTracker's VRC7 chipset emulation. While there were limitations in the chipset's polyphony, the sound came out all right. Unfortunately, the chipset wasn't able to pump out much in the low-end frequencies, so I boosted the bass after I converted the file from FTM to MP3.

Neon Dreams is my debut album release and a very eclectic compilation of original VGM inspired music (and 2 covers!) I composed and/or arranged over the course of the past 2 years with some help from Rudy Escobar and Trevin Huges (Jredd) collaborating with me on a good portion of the tunes.

Thank you so much for listening to Meet The Light… since 2016 marks thirty years since the original Kid Icarus debuted on the NES, I wanted to record a few remixes as tribute to this wonderful little series. 

The Kid Icarus series has always been very special to me. When I played the original game nearly thirty years ago, I found myself instantly entranced by the music. I loved the game as well, but never got very far in it until I played it again as an adult. Since replaying it, I’ve beaten it quite a few times now! It remains a favorite of mine; I love the game and I love the music. 

In 2013, I worked with the Gamer Symphony Orchestra at the University of Maryland, and they performed my orchestral arrangement of the music from Kid Icarus. Now, three years later, I’ve returned to the music from this series. 

“Dark Pit” is a wild take on Dark Pit’s theme song; it’s high-energy and vaguely reminiscent of the early music of Panic! At The Disco. It also features some awesome trumpet work from the very talented John Robert Matz, composer of game soundtracks such as Artemis Bridge Simulator and Fossil Echo.

“Hades” is a jazzy rendition of the Lord of the Underworld’s normally terrifying theme song. Imagine Hades after a long day of wreaking havoc on the human world and dealing with Pit and Palutena… he’s probably kicking back by the fireplace and sipping some scotch, and of course, listening to his favorite jazz records. This track features Dan Remme on horn, jazzin’ it up like he does best.

“Destroyed Skyworld” captures the suffering Pit and Palutena went through during the course of Kid Icarus: Uprising, when the Chaos Kin took over Palutena’s soul. During the game, Pit is faced with a difficult decision; he knows he needs to confront Palutena and fight her, but he fears she may be too far gone. He may have to end her life and put her out of her misery. The entire last minute of the song descends into utter insanity, which I feel captures the emotions both Pit and Palutena felt during this ordeal.

“Home” features Montclair Gamer Symphony Orchestra clarinetist Chris Erickson providing us with a mellow clarinet line, and wraps up the EP with a peaceful feeling...

I've had this thing finished for several months but never bothered to upload it, so I thought it'd be neat to have it up for christmas so yea, cool.

This is mostly just me using the Shovel Knight instruments to create an arrangement, I took most of my inspiration from The Betrayer obviously tho the intro uses some instruments from Flowers Of Antimony, but yeah a lot of it is just me dicking around till I thought I had something that sounded neat so it's not supposed to be like a perfect 1 to 1 with any specific Shovel Knight track lol.

Just an idea that popped into my head yesterday. While trying to get ahold of SCC sounds from various things, I remembered I had La Mulana's SanbikiSCC soundfont laying around, so this makes use of that.

Tried to stay as close to the SCC+PSG limits as I can. Still sounds off in some places, but it still sounds close enough for me.
