This ones for all the b-boys who have attended the Breakin Bread club over the years and all the b-boy DJ’s around the world that spin Breakin Bread tunes in their b-boy battle sets. The drums are looped as if they were 2 breakbeat records being doubled. B-boys all around the world will be pulling their freezes as the stabs drop in on the start of each eight. The backing instruments are kept sparse to keep the drums in focus and Sabina Challenger laid down an extra backing style vocal that only drops in towards the end of the track. Get Lucky? The Getup are more than your average Hammond Funk outfit and this track proves it. A bubbling bass line kicks the track into a killer up tempo funk groove, having you reaching for the volume knob to crank it up as the first verse bursts out.  The track takes on a whole new dimension as the chorus reveals a four-on-the-floor solid dance groove, with Jamiroqui-esque tasty chord changes, and then the horns stab us back into the next verse.  A percussive, reverberant Hammond solo takes us into a drum break that is DJ and sampler's heaven, before the tunes rounds out with a double chorus and ends on more punchy stabs……. a midtempo vocal workout showcasing the sheer musicality of the band…….funk of the highest order!

"Ok, lets go into the studio and just write a fast, funky, signature tune" was the brief for this track. And sure enough, kicking in with the 100mph hi-hat and bongo groove, heavy on the Hammond and Clav, and with it's instantly recognizable guitar riff you know we're on The Getup's home turf. Recorded live in the studio straight to tape, this clearly shows the band have been playing together for enough years to be
able to nail a tune like this, but still fuel it with the energy and excitement of a band that are just discovering themselves. And 'Straight From The Hob' is an apt title - with it's hot analogue production and not a single computer involved it's like the difference between micro-waved baked beans and those, well, straight from the hob. There's no comparison.

Before my next mix of newer material I wanted to make the first in a series of Classics mixes. These are the breaks that I remember being played all the time in the early 2000's. Some of them are straight up bboy anthems. Leacy, Dadeo, Geometrix and local radio DJ's had a big impact on what I play in this mix. To me, these sounds were everywhere and I wanted to bring that vibe back for the newer generation who might not know these breaks as well. Thank you to everyone who's supported me and believed in me. This is a masterful piece of b-boy magic. Arranged and produced like a funk track from the 70’s, this is not your straight looped beats for the average b-boy. This builds and grooves in a way that only a dancer would know about. K. Sabroso began his musical journey on the dance floor, studying the science of beats and breaks while earning his stripes as a b-boy. In 2009 Sandoval decided to focus his attention on music, both as a DJ and producer. With musical influences across the board, he has explored countless genres including Dancehall, Latin Alternative, Downtempo, Trip-Hop, House, Glitch, Jungle, Trap, and Jazz... but he never wanders far from the breakbeats that fuel him as both a dancer and frequent Dj of breaking battles.
