Danse Etoile Ballet (www.danseetoile.org) premiers two contemporary ballets June 3-4. Inspired by the relationships architects and dancers share with gravity, “In A Dialogue with Gravity” explores the connection between architecture, dance, and its people. In the second act, “Matisse’s Gardens,” the forms, colors, and space of Matisse’s famed cutouts forms the foundation for this contemporary ballet.

My music career began at the age of 6 when I received a guitar from my parents. I learned two chords and formed my first band. Our equipment was a puppet piano, two washing drums and a guitar. Between the ages of 12 and 15 I played in several bands with friends. Big role models were Jimi Hendrix, Doors, Janis Joplin, Alwin Lee etc. I was mainly influenced by Krautrock bans like Can, Groschnitt and Eloy. In the meantime I was able to improvise a few barre chords, mainly using the blues scale. But practicing was never my thing. So I automatically only progressed a step further when I liked a new riff. Music has always been an integral part of my work with children and people with disabilities. In 1990 I founded the band “Kroklowafzi” with friends, and later I played in the “Karl Grass Companie” purely for the joy of music, without any professional ambitions (audio samples are available on YouTube on my SoundCloud channel). During this time I had the opportunity to record my music in multiple tracks for the first time. Everything was still very amateurish and chaotic. After a divorce, I ended up on the streets and went into a psychotic episode. I now had 6 children to support but couldn't work. During this time, my brother gave me a music program that I could use to remaster my recordings from the last few years.

The piano is not just an instrument; it is a storyteller. My lifelong companion. Each piece holds the memory of a moment in time, of a period in life. Here, I share my personal journey—one miniature, one experiment, one story at a time.

I’m Konrad Spittelberg, 52 years old. Though I’ve always called Vienna my home, I have pursued various interests, building an interdisciplinary background that spans education in Latin and Greek, studies of Mathematics, Physics and Economics and a carreer in Consulting and Risk Management. Sometimes, you might also find me immersed in games of Go, Chess or D&D. 

But only when I’m not making music. Of course. Still then, all of my interests have shaped the way I think — and, in turn, the way I compose.

The instrument of my life is the piano. I play it since the age of six, the first 16 in music school with my dedicated teacher Margarete Gerlach (and also thanks to the city of Vienna to the incredible publicly funded music schools!). My piano playing saw multiyear interruptions due to travel and workload. But in recent years I’ve found the time to pursue my passion again—with renewed joy. I devote many of my evenings to developing, refining and rehearsing my piano miniatures. 

I inhale music wherever I find it. In the echoes of Renaissance motets or contemporary cluster music with my local choir, which I joined 30 years ago. In music running in the background of a fashion store which I Shazaam for later enjoyment. Or live concerts - there are so many gifted artists in the world! 

My music is a dialogue between tradition and exploration. Rooted in classical and romantic traditions, it ventures into jazz, rock, and pop.  I love to experiment—playing with unexpected tonalities, syncopated rhythms, and dynamic contrasts. My compositions often evolve through shifts in tension, rhythmic complexity, and harmonic modulations, sometimes venturing across the circle of fifths. I’m also diving deeper into the art of mastering, an area where I still have much to explore.

Bruce Klepper is a Colorado based composer with thousands of listeners worldwide. Klepper studied music composition in the 1970's and received a degree in music composition and theory.  After writing music for many years and starting a tech company based in Colorado, Klepper retired in 2014 from business so he could devote myself to his true passion, composing music. Klepper's music premiered in Carnegie Hall, September 2022.  Klepper writes music in a number of different styles, including contemporary classical music, jazz, soundscapes using field recordings, ambient music, and ballet music.  Klepper has been composing music for Danse Etoile Ballet (www.danseetoile.org) since 2016. Klepper has been collaborating with Parlando School of Musical Arts (www.parlando.org) faculty Britta De Groot and Sergei Govorov for over a year now, composing and arranging new music for the dynamic piano and saxophone duo to premier around the United States. Klepper's music can be heard on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and SoundCloud.
