Hello friends,

welcome to a personal journey back to the crazy decade we all remember as the 1990s and therefore directly into my childhood. As you know I tend to use my mixes as narrative tools, partly reflective, partly also as an affirmative tool to keep me going. This one's a bit of both and became a prequel to the "Trance With Benefits" mix I produced last year which covered the years '98 to '03 (https://soundcloud.com/burnout-sumner/trance-with-benefits-mixtape). 

"Childish Rave Euphoria" covers the 6-year-period before that, going right back to my first encounters with electronic dance music in the early 90s, so it's an essential look back into my childhood days and the sound of those times. Of course, since that was a special musical era and I was a kid between 7 and 13 you can expect a lot of "uncool" music in here - fast-paced happy hardcore, slick "Eurotrash" and lots of artists that weren't exactly part of the cool rave underground of the 1990s. However as I get older and revisit some of these songs I'm way more comfortable with them, accepting them as part of my own socialization and a part of who I am and how I see the world and electronic music today. Some of it hasn't aged that well, but I actually still enjoy most of the parts in this 2 1/2 hour ride into early 90s dance pop euphoria.

So, right next to relatively cool acts like Faithless, The Prodigy, Westbam, New Order, David Bowie and Everything But The Girl there's also room for Scooter, Dune, Snap!, Mark Oh, Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo, RMB and lots of these often German-centred eurodisco acts from that period of time. See for yourself how well they go hand in hand here. In some way I needed this therapeutic adventure in my life right now, reminding me of the euphoria, that special childish curiosity and naivety you tend to lose once you've become and adult. I'm not interested in going that path, so this is one way of dealing with it. Plus: I think 90s happy hardcore and trance is already making a comeback these days so why not embrace some of those classics, right? First and foremost this is a set for me but I honestly hope it will bring a smile upon the faces of fellow 90s kids, lovers of that era . Embrace the guilty pleasures, unleash your inner child and dance into a better future. And most of it: Have fun!
