Not to be played conservatively, "Street Spiders" sends us into a Terminator-esque dystopia of giant robotic spiders battling to a soundtrack derived from 80’s/90’s metal and electronic music.

Street Spiders (Perc Ens 18) - Jessica Flannigan

"The Hidden Kingdom" creates a melodic and tonal world inspired by the journey of exploration and discovery found in video games like the Legend of Zelda series. Through intricate textures and sweeping harmonic progressions, the piece evokes a sense of adventure and mystery, guiding listeners through a musical landscape that mirrors the beauty and dangers of these fantastical worlds.

The Hidden Kingdom (Perc Ens 15) - Matt Moore

"Revelations" “reveals” the incredible diversity of snare drum timbres and effects. Written for solo snare and 12 percussionists, it is essentially a snare drum concerto presenting ten unique sonic scenarios, including two cadenzas in a single, large movement.

The title "All That is Left" is a play on the "Litany Against Fear" from Frank Herbert’s novel,  "Dune." “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it is gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” I will be all that is left.

All That is Left (Percussion Ensemble 12) - Brett William Dietz

"Blossoms" is a powerful work for percussion orchestra that was inspired by the natural process of growth and transformation, yet it does not attempt to depict a specific narrative. Instead, the piece reflects a universal theme of evolution—be it the unfolding of a flower, the development of a musical idea, or the organic progression of time itself.

"Door County Summers" is a large percussion ensemble work that evokes the composers memories of time spent at the Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Egg Harbor, WI. The work has multiple opportunities to feature improvisation from select performers, and expands the traditional concert percussion ensemble to include instruments such as steel pans and a rhythm section. With lush harmonies and soaring melodies, this work will be enjoyed by both performers and audience members alike!

The work embarks on a journey through the skies and captures the many different feelings associated with clouds. There are the awe-inspiring sights to see, the bounciness and lightness of floating in the sky, and a storm that threatens to destroy. The goal, through this work, was to explore a new sound within the percussion orchestra. One that could be driving and intense, yet, still capture light and playful moments. A range of emotions and styles await within "Nimbus." The only question is: “Are you ready for the journey?

Nimbus (Perc Ens 14) - Christian Kilgore

"Simple Objects" was Inspired by this quote from percussionist Steven Schick: “Percussion instruments are, after all, simple objects: hit them and they will make a sound.” Centered on four featured batter/auxiliary parts that celebrate their melodic simplicity, the timpani & keyboard instruments color these melodies with pitch.

Simple Objects (Perc Ens 12) - Louis Raymond-Kolker

With a title pertaining to dreams or a dreamlike state, "Oneiric" is a work for large percussion ensemble that begins sparsely and gradually builds in intensity into a bright & driving celebration before concluding with the introspection from the opening.
