With a mixture of dense industrial atmospheres, offbeat sounds and cinematic elements, driven by an energetic kick, the Warsaw-born artist has been a well known figure in the techno scene in Poland and abroad. This resulted in released on labels such as CRS, Newrhythmic and Secret Keywords. Apart from his musical career, he's co-founder of the Lost in Ether platform, including a podcast series that also inspires us and is definitely worth checking out. 

For this podcast, he showcased a more deeper side of his own musical spectrum, slowly putting you into trance for the next hour.

The French artist uses a in-depth knowledge of old school rhythms and merges them with an " avant-gardiste " and trippy style. His motto : Hold the tension, hold the dynamic.

What a treat... Token Records boss Kr!z delivers and impressive and captivating 62-track mix for this week's GVR episode.

Kr!z always had a strong sympathy for the more gloomy, dark, rawer sound of techno. Artists like Jeff Mills, Surgeon & James Ruskin had a major influence on him in the 90s. They helped to define his musical taste and develop his own identity in the Techno scene. Being a respected & established value in Belgium for a decade and a resident-DJ for Belgium’ s legendary techno night ‘Kozzmozz’, his DJ-schedule now takes him all over the world.

In 2007, Kr!z felt there was too much good music around from his favourite artists that didn’t get a proper release, so he started his own label ‘@tokenrecords’. He rapidly established the label as a fixed value in the Techno scene of today by bringing a timeless & powerful sound. In the years of its existence Token released tracks & remixes from Inigo Kennedy , Ø [Phase], Luke Slater , James Ruskin, Marcel Dettmann, Blawan, Surgeon, Ben Klock, Xhin, Sigha & Peter van Hoesen, amongst many others.

This mix dates back to 1992 and is one of several that were bought directly from the Cafe’s DJ booth.  It was one of an incredible series of mixes that we collected over the course of the summer, all recorded at sunset, live from the cafe.

The mixes were each simply labeled with a number and by the end of the year we’d managed to get hold of either original or fairly decent copies of most of them.

Sadly at the time I don’t think we realised the importance or relevance these mixes would have in years to come and most are now long gone, so I’m glad this particular tape has just about stood the test of time as it was a favourite back then and just listening to the opening few tracks for the first time in over 10 years brings it all flooding back!

Sevensol is one true original of Leipzigs music scene. Together with Map.Ache and Bender he is owning KANN Label since 11 years already. This year they published their 41st release! Some years ago they even had their own record store in the south of Leipzig. But having to invest so much into new records every week wasn’t the real deal, so they focused on rather playing and releasing records. Sevensol in combination with Map.Ache is forming the DJ Team Manamana as which they are part of the residents of Nachtdigital festival, which took place for 22 consecutive years in Saxonias Olganitz.

🍁 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐦𝐧 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐞 🍁

I remember one autumn in my life, which was really hard and emotional, because I was far away from home in a foreign country and I did not have time enough to build close relationships with people there, when I lost a friend back home. I was with myself, with the grief in a small room, listening to a lot of music, which had to comfort me instead of a real person, because I was not in the state to really open up to someone there. I was thinking about my friend, that I will never see again, thinking about what I would have done differently, if I would have known, what there was to come, how I would have said goodbye properly, because I didn’t.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 is a lonely one too. A different one for the most of us due to the pandemic, the political developments all over the world, the fear of losing important protagonists and places of cultural life, which are essential for a democracy. There are so many conflicts in society soaking up the vacuum right now. 

𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝗱𝗰𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵𝘁𝗵 after a long walk through my neighborhood and lightening candles to remember this historical date. While I did this, there was another protest going on by right winged people, neonazis and corona deniers not far away from where I live. It was the fourth day of protest and violence in my hometown Leipzig. These last days made me and my close ones shake, because we are in fear for a not peaceful future and for our democracy. 
November 9th is, as I said, a historical date. That day Nazi Germany burned down synagogues in 1938 in the Reichspogromnacht. People were watching or looking away or even took part in it, when their Jewish neighbors got deported and killed and their homes and stores got destroyed. This happened in our streets here. The Stolpersteine tell the story about it. 

It happened, so it can happen again. For me it never felt so close like it does now. I am crying while writing this.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗵.

Also the German wall fell on November 9th in 1989. The country I was born in, did not exist anymore shortly after this. West and East Germany got reunited. But Germany still feels so divided, even after 31 years, even if the map tells something else. 

All this history and guilt is in us. Most of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents experienced all this. It is part of us and our culture.

𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁.

After the incidents of the last days, this is more important than ever.

I am trying to be positive. I really do. But sometimes in nights like this, it is just hard.
We are in a middle of a pandemic. We are trying to keep track, we are online too much, we are trying not to get lost, we are missing our families and friends we cannot be with due to the lockdown.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿!

There is a lot of going on in this complex world and my mind is spinning. And like back then, when I was in pain when I lost my friend, I listen to the music that comforts me and I want to share it with you. So I made a spinning sound collage of this November with the themes, that were moving me and I picked some music from back then, when I felt very lonely and some music I used to listen to with my friend in the earlier days, some newer up lightening and melancholic stuff 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱, 𝗯𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗧. 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲 about where a part of my heart is and will always be – at home at the “Baltique”. 

This is a map to guide you and me a little through this era with an "Autumn Waterkant Quarantine Tape" for mellow.

Starting our intergalactic journey this year with Leipzigs finest Dj Detox aka Gnista, not only resident at Mjut but also night manager and part of the orga  team behind the club. Born in the Osterzgebirge, Dresden raised and now based in Leipzig he is providing us with various releases on labels such as R.A.N.D, Uncanny Valley, F.T.P, Mechatronica & Brokn Toys, to name a few. He first made contact with making music by playing guitar in several small band projects, from there he started to collect dubstep vinyls and later figured out how to produce his own beats with Ableton. Since 2011 he has been inspired and teached a lot by Steve Kasper aka Steve.e and the Sub Sickness Crew from Dresden. Now his unique style ranges from electro breakbeats over to uk garage and jungle sounds all the way to classic house. We are very happy to kick off the year with this machine warrior on january 7th, 6pm CET!

For our next episode we invited Ambient-Dadaists Technik AG. With their hybrid live-set between turntablism and synthesizing these two sound designers creat dynamic soundscapes with floating textures and sharp contrasts. Besides drones and beats you will also recognise obscure voice samples and field recordings, impulsively arranged, somewhere between techno and musique concrète.
This one is going to be special in many ways: we are broadcasting live from the Eckladen location on Karl-Heine-Straße with a special light and video installment by trq_billy, on february 4th, 6pm CET.
