Let's meet our dj for episode 450, Josie Bee:
Brighton-based jungle aficionado Josie Bee is a part of the new wave of modern musicians aiming to bring back an old-school flavour to the dance music world. Gliding atmospheric pads, intense 808-style sub bass, and chopped-up drum breaks are commonly on the menu in her productions, with her DJ sets featuring both the minimalistic and ethereal, and the more intense, amen-laden ends of the jungle and hardcore spectrum in equal measure.
Perhaps most well-known for her star-studded radio show showcasing all things jungle, Josie is also heavily active on the live circuit, having recently worked directly with the likes of Coco Bryce, Mantra, Tim Reaper, and dgoHn.
With an active few years of live events, new music, and radio appearances behind her, Josie’s powerful momentum within the jungle scene certainly shows no signs of slowing, and looks set to carry her to tremendous heights in the dance music world within the very near future.

Helsinki based producer DJ Sofa continues to be a force to be wreck-end with in the Jungle scene. Starting off producing HipHop, House and UKG since 2012, this self taught producer quickly found her love for Jungle and Hardcore beats. With some solid DNB releases on Midnight Sun Recordings, Sofa's jungle flavours on Midnight Sun and Straight up Breakbeat found the ears of some the scenes best jungle connoisseurs. Sofa has had support from the like of Tim Reaper, Coco Bryce, Mantra, Flight and plays on BBC Radio 1.
She made her UK debut at top London Jungle night - Rupture, and has since been back for Tim Reaper's night Future Retro, also with a forthcoming release in the bag!
In Finland, Sofa is a resident for Straight Up Breakbeat and VOM and when she's not writing beats, you can find her hosting a monthly radio show on IDA Helsinki called 'Rough Around The Edges'
With forthcoming vinyl releases on staple labels such as Myor, Lobster Theramin and Future Retro, Sofa has made a huge impact on the Jungle scene already and continues to flourish as a producer.

Energy 1058 Radio - Live Mix -11/2/23

From 1994-1997 Fabio hosted a seminal radio show on Kiss FM. He would alternate each show with Grooverider and it was the first time jungle was played on legal radio. It was essential listening for music that wouldn't normally get played out, or even heard again! These shows were a window into another world and fresh 90-minute TDKs on hot standby was standard procedure. 

For the second hour of the show, Fabio would announce "The Jazzstep coming up next...", and after a few months it became "The Legendary Jazzstep..." - this was big!

The music was jazz-influenced and driven by funk breaks, which tended to be quite loose with the patterns. It was a golden era before things got stripped back to more surgical timings seen with liquid, it also made the sound feel more organic and musical.

This mix attempts to recreate the feeling of these shows with dreamy sax, epic keyboard solos, cool double bass and the funkiest of breakbeat grooves. Featuring music from Carlito, Subject 13, Hidden Agenda, Primary Motive and early Creative Source - some of the finest drum and bass ever made.

It was recorded from a mixture of both vinyl and digital, and it wouldn't be right for the Jazzstep show if there wasn't a couple of dubplates in there as well: a very jazzy something forthcoming on Make or Break from Deeptropix, and an unreleased collab track from Sekl @sekldnb and Rough Territory @Rough-Territory

Even during the peak era of the jungle, this music was considered quite a niche sound, but Fabio was a pioneer with a true passion and love for the music. Big respects to Fabio for doing his own thing and giving the music a platform for all to appreciate.
