We have been big fans of this talented gentleman for several years, been never had the opportunity to connect until Art With Me festival in Miami where our brothers, Wild Dark, made an introduction. Laughter and hilarity ensued -- we clicked like old friends and invited him to join the hallowed ranks of the Bespoke Radio series.

We thrilled to present this gorgeous, fresh mix the one and only, Spaniol. <3

Today we embark on a special journey with our dear friend Amer from Old City. Old City has been close to Amaya since the very beginning and we have enjoyed our relationship for a number of years. We are so happy to have you today sharing this beautiful and eclectic mix, perfectly balanced and mixed. It truly shows how deep and thoughtful Old City's musical storytellings evolve. 
As usual we get to know more about Old City in our interview at the end.

"While creating a set, I process a lot of what I go through and make sense of my journey by drawing meaning from the stories that reveal themselves. What is this song about? What does it make me feel? Is there a story that I can draw an emotional attachment from? A lot of realizations have come about this past year as I ask myself these questions. The deeper question being masked by that is really: how am i feeling today? Through that constant self assessment, I get to know myself a little better, peel the layers and understand what each phase means to me. I get to know myself best when I’m creating. Through music, through starting to explore photography and through writing, I’m expanding the channels in which I can absorb, process, learn and then share. Old City is my attempt at doing so. 

As many people already know, I started playing alone for over a year now without the partner that I started this all with - a gap that has forced me to ask myself endless questions and go through a lot of internal growth. I have a lot of emotions towards having to fill that gap and losing a partner in this journey, but every “positive” or “negative” experience exists to teach us something. We ask ourselves the hardest questions when it’s a “negative” experience, and sometimes can go a little less self aware when we’re on that “positive” momentum. I went in a different direction musically and used it as an opportunity to self discover, experiment and increase my range. I played disco, house, minimal, acid jazz, blues, afro funk, progressive house. All blended in a way that felt unique to my taste and felt right to the ambience of where I was playing. But I perhaps also escaped what reminded me of the original essence of why Old City came to be and I continued to distract myself away from the hardest question.

This set for Amaya’s radio show is my deepest and most personal, emotional reflection and I want it to tell you what I love, what I truly care about, and what I am starting to understand Old City to be, authentically me. Some elements, particularly the important message during the closing of this set was something very special I wanted to share during my sunset time slot on the Maxa Art Car at Burning Man this year, but that set was cancelled last minute and I was left heartbroken that I couldn’t share that message then and there. But naturally I immediately knew this radio show with Amaya was the right home for it. There is a 45 mins interview at the end that I shed a bit of light on this as well and a first open heart discussion about my story and beliefs. We were slowly getting ready for our journey to the big circle you can see at night. Then, somewhere in the middle of nowhere we went into the sparkling rocket with all the friends and creatures we found. That was the beginning of an unbelievable adventure.

I'm reading a fantastic book at the moment entitled, "Cosmic Serpent" by Jeremy Narby.  In it, is the story of a man that leads the reader through unexplored and uncharted jungles of anthropological studies, biology and the limits of rational thought.  
This collection of musical pieces have served as a soundtrack of sorts, while immersed in the exploration of what is possible beyond what we think we know.
My hope is that the listener is able to time travel with the set, weaving in and out of primal, calm and ritualistic emotional states.

Here it is, my set from this years Feel Festival! <3 
I must say, I find it always quite difficult to play short DJ-Sets because it doesn't give me the time I need to really experiment and explore different moods. So, knowing that I would only have 1,5 hours to tell my story I tried to not stick to one mood but explore a lot of different tracks and play a rather diversified set. I feel like after 4 days of festival this can be quite refreshing! I ended up playing a little while longer after all but I decided to only load up the first 1,5 hours of my set anyways. 
Thanks to everyone that stopped by and made this possible. Looking forward to everything that's yet to come. Picking up a lot of inspiration on this little festival journey which I'll translate into loads of new music soon!

In a time when multi-hyphenated careers are commonplace and avant-garde movements have been smoothly co-opted by a process of commodification and commercialization, it is difficult to separate or tease out the actual threads of true creativity and grit. Where much of the art, music and entertainment worlds have combined and coalesced into a throbbing, teeming mass of pop culture, marketing, over-stimulation and over-consumption, Charlotte De Cock —painter, photographer, filmmaker, DJ, music & event producer— is a breath of fresh air.

And now she has multiplied herself into more personalities, changing one’s appearance very often…hen tai kyaku shutsu. When roughly translated word for word, it means ‘changing one’s appearance one hundred times’. Hen tai (変態 / へんたい) means ‘transformation’ or ‘metamorphosis’ and kyaku shutsu (百出 / きゃくしゅつ) means ‘arise in great numbers’.
