Disquiet Junto Project 0564: Octave Lept
The Assignment: Work an octave leap — or more than one — into a piece of music.

I used a track on which I was already working on and added automatic tools to randomly add or substract up to two octaves to all tracks. The probability was chosen so that the octave jumps should go unnoticed.

Sudden Jumps, Not Too Hefty [disquiet0564]

With planning now for the @naviar-records event on 7th December at Cafe Oto, I'm thinking now as pieces as fragments that will make for materials for live mixing and performance on the night.

This is a tiny fragment from the improvisation I did the other week with @stellato-strings on the violin, me on the piano, and through panning, repetition and added effects normally used for vocals I'm trying to create a spider's web that is a series of bell-like connections.

This is in response to HAIKU MUSIC CHALLENGE Naviarhaiku 460:

This week's prompt was to create the sound of a nightmare that resolved to a soothing C6/9 chord.

I pretty much worked backwards, recording longtones on my melodica and then pitch-shifting them down to C2, E2, A2, and D3 (whether the sound of a melodica is soothing or not is up to your personal taste). Then I shmudged them up using various FX plug-ins that had wet/dry knobs.

I mapped the wet/dry mix to one macro knob in Ableton so the percentage of noise-causing would decrease at the same rate for each plugin.

It was a fun tour through my lesser-used plug-ins. Shout out to Puremagnetik, whose plug-ins showed up a lot in the various fx chains.

" Record a piece of music that does change keys"

This one I'm sharing is a track I've been working on since July 2022, eventually a week ago I decided to drop this take and start all over with a solo piano version. It has some key changes, not really sections but there's a permanent "unstable key" feel throughout.

Piano
Classical guitar
Drums (brushes)
Acoustic bass guitar
Wine glasses (background sequence)
Celesta (from sample library)
Synth pad
Key changes go like this:
1st bar E minor 
4th bar A minor
5th bar F# minor
8th bar B minor
9th bar G major
and then back to E minor for the coda.
All repeated twice in this version, with an extended coda.

This was my contribution for the Disquiet Junto Project 0570: Key Change.
Here’s a copy of my post on the Disquiet Junto 0570 discussion thread:
I don’t think I’ve ever done a key change in any of my projects unless by accident, so thank you for this challenge. I had a lot of fun putting this together. This piece shifts from E minor to D minor and back to E minor. I used NI Playbox and ThePhonoLoop Tape.01 plug-ins within Ableton Live for most of the sounds and effects. AudioThing Noises was used to create the background drone.
