Mario Castro, aka Never Alone in a Dark Room, is a Mexican musician, DJ, and label owner who started making music in 2014, entering the minimal scene in 2017. His dark minimal electronic sound draws from avant-garde, musique concrète, and classical experimental influences. Supported by artists like Mihigh, Vadim Oslov, and Denis Andreev, he has released tracks on labels such as Yoyaku.fr, Sendero, and Fratii.ro, as well as vinyl on European labels like Artist From Nowhere and Helene Records.

The fifth release on Anva Records brings Tagir & Zarin’s "Diphthongs EP", a two-track mini-album featuring Diphthongs, a modern take on classic house, and the science-infused B-side Phenomenon Called Dreaming.

On the A-side, "Diphthongs" unfolds as a diptych, mirroring its name. The 12.5-minute track is divided into two acts, symbolizing an era shift. The first act features a familiar groove—steady, metallic bass, an 808 drum machine kick, and an emotive Y2K-style organ. The second act transitions into an unpredictable future—tense atmospheres and fragmented percussions.

On the B-side, Phenomenon Called Dreaming offers a dynamic exploration of dreams. Hypnotic Moog synth lines intertwine with an audio excerpt from Lex Fridman’s podcast, where he and Berkeley professor Matthew Walker discuss why humans dream.
"The entire release took about three weeks to complete," explains Tagir. "I focused on modular synthesis for bass and percussion, as well as harmonic structures, while Zarin worked on drum arrangements, instrument selection, and suggested incorporating Lex Fridman’s podcast snippet."
“In a way, this EP is an attempt to explore both external reality—how time flows and transforms within it—and internal reality, the one we experience in dreams.”

When it becomes your main accessory for a few days, romantic dates under the Pyrenean sky are out of the question. Not even romance can help here — but fever medicine can. Luckily, taking care of a loved one is much easier than doing nothing.

— I feel awful… completely destroyed, and my throat — it’s like sandpaper!
— Hang in there, love. You’ll feel better soon.
— I told you we should’ve stayed in Amsterdam. Getting sick at the start of the tour sucks.
— Do you think a hot coffee and a croissant might make things a little better?
— Yay! Oh… right. I’m sick. Cough, cough.

Sharpening his sense of smell, Plate set off in search of something delicious. Pastry shops shimmered invitingly with their glass displays until one finally captivated him with its sheer abundance. “Bonjour, monsieur!” — a cheerful voice chirped from behind the counter. Care for every detail was in the air as a perfect reminder that even in the most unexpected moments you can brighten someone’s day.
