I'm Locked Down

Out of the entire album, only the first part of this two-song track, 'Horoscopes', was recorded separately. christopher remade that part of the track at home in his own studio, playing guitar, synth, and fretless bass, with Alfonso Cavassa adding live upright piano in the big studio. The rest of the track, space-rock jam 'Void', is a single take (take one, in fact) of the band playing together in the studio. Only the distant siren-like lap-steel was added, by christopher, in a single take later.

On this song, for example, only the distant acoustic guitar was added by christopher, in the refrain, to the original live take. The first couple of notes of the solo were also patched as christopher mis-hit the string in an otherwise good performance. Everything else is the original take.

On this song, for example, only the vocoder was added, by christopher, in the studio to the live performance. His improvised vocoded words in the breakdown – 'Something like that? Something like that?' were intended as a question to his bandmates – a suggestion of how the part could sound. But it sounded so good they kept it!
