In the New Year's Queue

On a crisp and sunny morning, I step inside the market hall
Buying treats and sparkling wine, for our New Years party at night fall
My thoughts are drifting to the evening, dreaming of a joyful night
I dream of dance, of friends of fancy fashion– tonight is gonna feel allright

And then arrive at the counter - no, that's euphemistic to say
‘cause the end of the line is 20 meters away
Patience tested but my pulse still stays rested
I glance at my watch, just sufficient time still at hand
But if I get delayed, my day won't go as I planned
“Come on, why can’t you just move along?”

An elderly 
-- couple decides that they want to get 
--rid of all their coupons
They search their bags with amazing endurance - it’s a geriatric marathon
They turn each leaflet individually – is it still good?
I feel the pressure slowly rising under my hood
 
why do I have to waste my time in line - what's the deal?
how did I end up here - I must attest -- this gets a surreal feel
Every minute feels like hours, I’ve got to  go
Stuck in this snail trail that is creeping so slow

--- A man wants to pay 
his whole purchase with coins and he counts them with intricate care 
--- But then he mixes them up 
and so the count repeats again, 
--- as the line waits in ever increasing despair
his fingers start to tremble even more 
as he tries to build piles
 --- if it were for me
I would strongly support a law 
That would put this guy  into eternal exile

 Clench my fists till they’re white
Try to resist the anger that is building up inside of me
Hormones storming, my vision forming a tunnel
That is filled to the top with a bloody red sea
I must confess, it was no clever plan
To use my cart, As a battering ram
First it caused a shopping cart traffic jam
And then the first blow started to hit  into my belly

You will understand that I needed to defend my stand
Fists were flying there were children crying I did not care
Rage was holding me in its clutch
My composure breaking, this was getting too much
As I went down under kicks and blows


And the last thing that I’m able to recall
I was smashed against a wall
It nearly  broke  my skull
Conciousness waved politely bye bye 

I woke up the following day in a hospital
the bruises were not really critical
but my enthusiasm for this new year had faded to null

Around next Christmas, 
I'll mind my own business
And leave all the parties behind 
And will try  …
… to unwind

Another year’s gone by, one more closer to the day you’ll die
All those goals you’ve set, you haven’t accomplished anything yet
You’re hoping that the next year’s better than the one you left behind
As you stare wistfully at the mountaintop and continue on your climb
They say you should enjoy the journey on your way to your destination
But when the goal is elusive, it’s easy to feel lots of frustration

Maybe you should be a little less hard on yourself, maybe you should
Maybe you should cut yourself some slack
In the end it really doesn’t matter if your dreams go boom or bust
In the cosmic scheme we’re here for a short time and then we’re all just dust
Sometimes when you’re on a journey it’s okay to take a detour
Life’s an amazing ride with so many places to explore
Sometimes you feel that maybe you’re just a legend in your own mind
But all that self-doubt you’ve been having, you need to leave it all behind
You can follow your head, or you can let your heart do the navigation
You can follow the crowd, or set off on your own unique migration
Getting all those likes on social media can be intoxicating
And when you don’t get any engagement, it can feel so frustrating
Like Elsa in that movie Frozen, sometimes you gotta let it go
Stop chasing the latest fads, and be the star of your own one-man show
Maybe you should be a little less hard on yourself,  maybe you should
Maybe you should cut yourself some slack
Maybe you should try a little harder to find the silver lining, when things feel grim
Count your blessings and realize things aren’t so bad

Another  Year's Gone By

I don't like theological interpretative authority (see ‘Lone, lost in hope’). nevertheless, I am an agnostic who fully accepts any religion unless it leads its followers down destructive paths and justifies this as a higher, sacred mission. this also means I truly appreciate the positive power that faith can unleash in people, even though I myself rely on other mechanisms.

however, hope is hope, regardless of whether you direct it to heaven in prayer or simply carry it in your heart as a faint wish. 

here’s to the desire for just one silent, holy night, calm and bright, to sleep in heavenly peace. with a wish list that requires no further explanation, just ears to hear a prayer that should finally be answered. by those who can fulfill it. not god, but us humans.

peace is the most precious gift in the world, not only these days.

Breakin' Up Christmas

We’re excited to share “Grind” because it’s a flavor-explosion of some of our favorite sounds: a laid-back groove with beats of the fattest variety and guitar reminiscent of soul/blues/rock juxtaposed with an eerie alternative force.

This tune features a distorted and harmonized riff on sax that is sure to spread butter all over your biscuits. It also features recordings of engines & machines that James made at work (while he should’ve been working). These sounds tie in conceptually with the song’s lyrical theme and message.
