WDL - Tin Can Motorbike (Feat Mouthe & Kristin Amparo)

This song originally started with a lot more words. Along the way, we figured out that the message was clearer with less lyrical content. Short & sweet.  It was written on a piano, but grew into a series of interlocking textures. Vast/grainy turns to round/smooth, which turns to crunchy/sharp and back again. It’s all here folks!

“Abandon Me” features some interesting percussion a la James Blake and Frank Ocean. It also features a pretty decent amount of vocal harmony and some key modulation for all you fackin’ nerds.

The bridge is sure to rattle your bonesters if you listen on a nice system/headphones at the appropriate volume. Enjoy!


Abandon Me

We’re excited to share “Grind” because it’s a flavor-explosion of some of our favorite sounds: a laid-back groove with beats of the fattest variety and guitar reminiscent of soul/blues/rock juxtaposed with an eerie alternative force.

This tune features a distorted and harmonized riff on sax that is sure to spread butter all over your biscuits. It also features recordings of engines & machines that James made at work (while he should’ve been working). These sounds tie in conceptually with the song’s lyrical theme and message.

Grind

Poster Man gets down to the nitty, and also the gritty (don’t forget about the gritties, people). Lyrically, this song is directed at people in power who mislead and hurt the public. It’s not pointed at any particular individual!

Musically, this tune features some filthy synth sounds along with a swampy guitar riff and some biting vocal effects. The beat is laid back, but as solid as an igneous lava formation. That means it was formed from liquid hot MAG-MA.

“A Forest Apart” dives into the depths of musical subtlety and sensitivity.  A change of pace from classic Codex hits such as “Poster Man” and “Grind,” this song delivers a mix of intimacy and sprawling soundscapes supported by a groove reminiscent of the musical genre known as “hip hop.”

Lyrically, “A Forest Apart” focuses on themes of isolation and rebirth.  Sonically, it features piano and effected sax.  And our sexy vocal cords.  

This melodious masterpiece is preceded by a dark and dreamy saxophone introduction called “The Looming.” It features our very own Adam Littman, as he incorporates lots of ethereal manipulations and effects.
