Sonoplastiko: An Audio Visual Consultation by Nandele 

Concept:  Sonoplastiko is a sound performance, an audiovisual show of experimental electronic music, and "ambient music". However, the main focus is on sound and how it can be manipulated in a synthetic, or digital, and analog perspective, taking into account the acoustics of the space. 

The performance is compiled with field recordings of urban Maputo the capital Mozambique, plus field recordings from certain parts of Europe, airports, Ikea and others such as dialogues recorded in cassettes from Mozambican journalists and novel writers. 

Artist Bio:  Nandele is one of the most innovative beat makers,sound artists, producers and DJ coming from Mozambique. He is at the forefront of the alternative and experimental music scene with his mix of bass heavy Boom Bap instrumentals, Ambient, Techno, Ebm, dubstep, trap, psychedelic hip-hop beats and the makonde rhythms of Northern Mozambique. 

The son of the first black director of the Mozambican National Radio after the country's independence, this is where he gets his musical background listening in his early age to a vast musical catalog raging from Michael Jackson to Fela Kuti, from Kanda Bongo Man to Santana and Marvin Gaye, which he incorporates it in his beat making. 

A prolific producer and writer, Nandele has written music for contemporary dance performances, films and has a number of band projects including: Cantinho das Cores, The Mute Band (who won best new band at the Mozambican Music Awards in 2016) and Azagaia & Os Cortadores da Lenha. He has collaborated with artists such as Felix Laband (RSA), Dion Monti (CHF), Symbiz (DEU) and Boogz Brown (REU), African Ghost Valley(CAN). 

He has graced stages at some of the biggest festivals in Southern Africa: Afropunk Johannesburg, MTN Bushfire Festival in Swaziland, Azgo Festival in Mozambique. His first E.P. Argolas Deliciosas and his first full length album Likumbi was released through Mozambican independent label Kongoloti Records, he has released Eps/cassettes through label Inserttapes in Sweden (Blu Kidz), Already Dead Tapes 
and Records in Los Angeles (Plafonddeinst) and Cotch International in London (FF). Nandele is also member and founder of an audio-visual group Muave he is part of the Miss collective that recently released a multi-disciplinary performance called Degradação (Re)Generativa, he is part of international collective called Proximal Distal who had recently a residency and will release a publication and a vinyl. 

Nandele has remixed tracks for Dubokaj meets Lee Scratch Perry project and Mothers of Mars, and as producer for Tresor 30 compilation along with techno pioneers (Jeff Mills, Dj Stingray), established and upcoming artists around the world and he is part of artist roaster of Tresor Records as well. He has produced a jingle which was a collaboration with ASAAS Collective from Palestine for Radio Alhara, where he is constantly collaborating and his live performances and mixes are broadcasted. He has produced for the Original Soundtrack for the comic book informais created by Anima Studio Criativo. 

Nandele believes through his music he can do the unimaginable... communicating and taking us on his journey to try to communicate with other planets...

Born in Maputo in 1981, son of the first black director of the Mozambican National Radio after the independence, Nandele Maguni travels with his family to Zimbabwe, where he lives until he is 7 years old. He grows up in a family from the Makonde tribe, being exposed early on to the music of Fela Kuti, Kanda Bongo Man, Hugh Masekela, Steven Kakana, Miriam Makeba, amongst others. Through his father comes also the music of Michael Jackson, Kool And The Gang, Bob Marley and Toots And The Maytals. All these great musical references helped to shape Nandele´s taste and in the 90s he was already freestyling to hip-hop beats, on sundays, on the National Union Of Journalists. Also in the 90s a friend of his dares him to play on a grunge band, inspiring him to learn to play the drums. This project had a short life and in 2004 Nandele takes up the drums on the hip-hop group Projecto Kamuflado, playing in many venues and drawing the attention of some producers. After a short residency on the historic bar Gil Vicente, with the Boom Bap Crew, Nandele is invited to stay in Gil Vicente´s resident band as a presenter and singer. At the same time he is spreading his good taste in several DJ sets throughout Maputo. His growing interest in electronic music and the possibilities that this style brings to a live show, leads him to start producing his own beats and form a new audiovisual project called Awesomakossa. In 2013 he was invited to be the DJ of the band Azagaia & Os Cortadores de Lenha, accompanying one of the most important rappers from the lusophone world.
