Welcome to the fourth chapter of the ELASTE series!
In this compilation I am progressing a style I am inaugurating: Vintage Futurism.

The best metaphor for this genre is Charanjit Singh's 1982 album Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat in which he created a sound which mirrors, but more importantly pre-dates, the first acid house record by five years. It is no novelty record, but truly capturing the hypnotic potential of acid/house music. It became my key track for Elaste Volume 4.
Previous incarnations of Elaste have aimed to catch the spirit of the late 70’s Italian Cosmic Discotheque, a place where the history of DJing was rewritten within this microcosm. For this latest instalment I was most intrigued by weird of-the-time (or ‘out-of’ as the case turned out to be) electronic disco, a vast genre!

Bringing together those progressive avant-garde tracks that were expanding the genres of house, disco, acid, new wave; and ultimately use Elaste as a vehicle to highlight those tracks that were ahead of their time. These legendary works ranges from 1978 to 1996, a wide spectrum of musical history, in which some of the older tracks may sound modern, and newer ones sound may sound vintage.

Many of these authentic back-to-the-aural-future moments were initial sparks for whole genres - Larry Heard ́s Disco-D alias happened just before house music. Greg Wilson’s 1984 project Equip was produced for a UK Electro compilation, but never made the LP, because it sounded simply too futuristic. Michael Rinder ́s Gluttony can’t be called Disco any more, not even Post-Disco.

For Elaste Vol. 4 we have built Vintage Futurism as a home for these ultramodern mavericks.

About Dompteur Mooner
Mooner stepped into the limelight as part of Zombie Nation, whose 1999 smash hit 'Kernkraft 400' was signed to DJ Hell's Gigolo label and earned worldwide chart success. As one of the most knowledgeable experts in obscure vintage electronic music, Mooner however decided to do things a little less obvious from that point on: He left Zombie Nation and founded Erkrankung durch Musique, a label dedicated to releasing left-field electronica, from techno to experimental pop, old and new.

He also a highly regarded DJ, known for his unmatched record collection and bootleg edits, such as his „Girls Girls Girls“ Ep that combined great 80s girl bands as extented edits, or „Greatest Hits“, an hommage to dance – orientaed Rock music.

Mooner just finished his fourth chapter of „Elaste“, a compilation series for Compost Records that started the Cosmic Disco hype.

Fresh off their April 2022-released debut single on Unreel, German duo Konrad Ritter & NEPH are back at it with "High Hopes", a three-track hike across solar house territories beautifully complemented by a choice remix from Kompakt stalwart Robag Wruhme. True to the pair's ever vivid and colourful approach, a lush palette of summery flavours and organic suavity exudes from this fresher-than-fresh second effort.

The blissed-out, disco-hued opener "Trip City" treats us to a smorgasbord of layered pad swashes, framing our minds in a warm cocoon of sound that spins in and out of focus to the jacking rhythm of early Chicago house drums. Folding out sequences of melodic sublimation and honey-like textural unctuosity thru and thru, a different shade of feelgood-ism innervates "You Are Doing Well", where Ritter and NEPH blend in elements of polyrhythmic Caribbean music with heavily processed vocals and a left-of-centre sense of deep-house escapology.

Rounding off the package on a luminous, typically empowering note, German maestro Robag Wruhme repurposes "You Are Doing Well" into a proper clear-watered slice of shoegaze-y, dreamy elation - perfect for transitional states both on and off the dance-floor, then slowly but surely (and elegantly) cranking up the tempo up a notch until its bass-powered engines take us off up the highest layers of the dance-o-sphere.

`Candidasa´ and `Wespennest´ are the result of DJ Kozes inspiring stay in a secluded Benedictine monastery on the enchanting island of Sulawesi. Amidst this idyllic setting, he found the perfect environment to unleash his musical vision. He composed all of the music of `Candidasa´ while lying on his stomach, in an act of deepest devotion and self-reflection. In doing so, he fed exclusively on so-called heroin kebabs to immerse himself in a trance-like state of creative flow. The result is a soundscape of unimagined depth and beauty that enchants the senses and transports listeners to another dimension by massively increasing the frequency of flicker fusion.

On `Wespennest´ the wonderful Sophia Kennedy takes the stage and breathes a new dimension into the music with her impactful lyrics and vocals. In the past five years since her debut single ‘Herd Animals’, the Danish-Honduran singer and electronic artist has been quietly stirring in the waters of the Copenhagen underground, impressing critics and audiences alike with her “combustible blend of impassioned lyrics and club-geared beats” (DJ Mag).
 
Now, Pavon is ready to share the first taste of her debut album. The single ‘Love How You Dance’ delivers a sharp-edged house beat built around Pavon’s characteristically brazen vocals, brimming with equal parts pathos and attitude.
 
“The song is an ode to the dance floor and to those pure magnetic exchanges that happen when you meet someone on the dance floor who just reciprocates your energy,” says Pavon about the track.
 
‘Love How You Dance’ is produced by house maestro Musumeci in collaboration with OliO.
 
Pavon’s debut album, titled Born With Heartbreak, will come out May 23 on Music For Dreams. Describing the album as “a raw, immediate, uncompromising force,” Pavon is set to switch out the diy-styled deep-house grooves of her early singles with a starker and more dramatic sound.

Pavon’s previous singles, released over the past few years, include the house-pop banger ‘Lost Child’ and the underground disco-house enigma ‘Don’t Call Me Out’, both of which were named track of the week by Danish radio (DR P3). In 2023, Pavon released the EP Watch Her Dance, adding to her boisterous dancefloor output a more introverted, brooding expression (‘Hey Sister’, ‘Watch Her Dance’).
