I had the incredible honor to play at the Spirit Space at Mystic Creatures Festival. What a wonderful experience to play music in this safe and slow space. Could have not imagined a more beautiful setting for this journey around 85 BPM. Thanks to all those beautiful souls that showed up to dance, chill, rest, dream or drift. Thank you to @truenaturemusic who played a wonderful set before me, thanks to all my loved ones that made the long journey by train and bus from Zurich to the festival! Thanks to all the @mystic-tales-berlin beings for preparing that festival and enabling so many unforgettable moments and most importantly thanks to all those incredible artists which produced the tracks of this set, if you like some of them, consider giving them a buy on bandcamp instead of streaming their music through spotify <3

ursobjektiv @ Mystic Creatures Festival 2024 (Spirit Space)

After staying for over a week in the ancestral village of Ishola (Hekske’s lover) on the misty slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains, the witches kissed goodbye to their friendly hosts and continued their flight southwards, following their inner compass. Hekske (the little witch) and Falke (the 10-year old witch apprentice) flew over a wide variety of breathtaking landscapes, like the Okavango delta and the thundering Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya).
While flying southwards, they noticed that the temperatures were getting milder. After a long flight, they saw a long mountain range in the distance (which they didn’t want to cross on the same day). At the foot of the mountain range, they spotted an idyllic green valley with a little river. And next to the river they spotted a woman with long brown hair in a long white dress. Instinctively they knew she was a witch. Without hesitation, Hekske and Falke started to descend and a few moments later they touched down gently next to the woman, who gave them a warm welcome hug. Surprisingly, her skin was white, which the girls didn’t expect on the African continent. And to their great surprise, she greeted their guests in Dutch (which is the mother tongue of the Hekske and Falke). Or at least, is was some kind of funny and cheerful variant of the Dutch language. 
The woman introduced herself as Ineke, and she had fled from Flanders some 3 centuries ago, escaping persecution. And today was the very first time in 300 years that she met with other Flemish witches. It was such a beautiful moment, and the witches cried tears of joy.
A little later, Ineke showed her guests around the woods and plains of the Highveld plateau. The European witches were surprised to see that flowers were blooming everywhere and birds were singing their most beautiful song. This really felt like spring, which was quite amazing given the fact that it was the day of the autumn equinox.
Ineke explained that spring was starting just now on this side of the globe, and that the equinox of September is actually the spring equinox. Meanwhile the soft light of the setting sun was reflecting on the nearby mountain range (which was named the Magaliesberg mountains), making the rocks light up in a myriad of different pastel colors. 
This was the most special evening of the year, as it was not only the equinox, but also a full moon, and even a supermoon and partial lunar eclipse. Ineke took their guests to a little nearby lake, from which they had an excellent view of the rising moon. It was a truly breathtaking spectacle, with the moon surface changing colors continuously. Also the reflection of the soft moonlight on the surface of the mirror lake was truly mesmerizing. Unfortunately this lunar spectacle was interrupted when some clouds drifted by and covered the moon. Strangely, there could still see the reflection of the moon on the surface of the lake, which is actually impossible. The witches sensed that this was no ordinary event. They simultaneously slipped out of their white dresses and wated into the cold water, until it became too deep and they started to swim. They couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw a glowing orb under the water in the distance. They decided to swim towards this light, which became more and more intense as they approached it. And when they saw what it was, they couldn’t believe their eyes. This would be the start of an epic night, full of ecstatic dancing and mystic singing. A night which seemed to last for weeks …

"Die Welt scheint manchmal verrückt zu sein - wir können uns in all dem Wahnsinn verlieren, ja. Aber wir neigen dazu zu vergessen, dass das nur eine Oberfläche ist. Wir verwechseln das Wetter mit dem Himmel und die Wellen mit dem Ozean. Deshalb ist es von Zeit zu Zeit notwendig, in einen Heiß-Luftballon zu steigen und hinaufzufliegen, nur um einen Blick auf die eigentliche Realität zu erhaschen. Das hilft, die Illusion von Maya zu durchschauen, um wieder Hoffnung oder noch besser das Vertrauen zu schöpfen - trotz all des Chaos.

Wie der Psychologe Erich Fromm in der Einleitung sagt: „Ich würde nicht auf eine gute Chance wetten, aber ich bin nicht hoffnungslos. Ich glaube, dass schon biologisch gesehen im Menschen eine Tendenz liegt, sein Leben nicht nur als Einzelner, sondern auch als Gattung zu erhalten. Und erhalten kann man das Leben nur, wenn man es entwickelt, wenn man ein Interesse hat, ja, ich glaube, man kann auch sagen, im weitesten Sinne, wenn man die Welt liebt. Und ich kann an dieser Stelle die Hoffnung nicht aufgeben“.

So lade ich dich ein zu einem Flug durch Turbulenzen in höhere Höhen, durch Wolken und Stürme, Tag und Nacht, jetzt, hier öffne deine Augen, schau nicht weg."

This live is the third set up I built this year: Starting from sequencers and small synths, I arrived at a hybrid form, with Ableton as a sequencer, with samples and midi signals to a small Roland synth and the TR-8S as a drum machine and midi controller. It's a set up that gives me what I need at the moment and with the possibility of modifying it while maintaining the same approach. And above all, the possibility of creating the set that seems most suitable to me every time, and then improvising.

I created all these tracks (except the last two) for this live with a concert logic, a bit as if it were the same track with variations and with elements that return and evolve.

This also gives me the possibility of breaking out of the rigid scheme of a series of single tracks and thinking more about the flow, even with a greater possibility of making mistakes, and therefore of putting myself on the line.

With quirky, hypnotic and sometimes dreamy elements, he takes the listener on a deep but feather-light journey into the world of house and downtempo. Incredibly fun is awiating you.

✔️ What is your musical influences? What is your musical background?
My musical influences originally came mainly from dubstep and house / deep house.  Downtempo came later, around 2015 or so. In the meantime I'm happy to have more acoustic music or ambient in my life. A musical background, outside of the obligatory primary school recorder I don't have one. I just took a lot of time later and tweaked everything. tweaked everything. At some point things start to make sense, I swear!

✔️ What makes a good "afterhour"?
A good afterhour should have electrolytes, water, food and tame music. Something like Billy Caso's “At Home” series.

✔️ What was your experience of the set you recorded on the Zugvögel Festival 2024?
For me, the mix is a nostalgic journey into (my) earlier house and
deep house. So it doesn't claim to be particularly deep.
It's just supposed to make you pee in your eyes about back then and bumble in your ass.

✔️ Do you have any special thoughts you want to share with us about the gig?
The gig was a nice and familiar one. It was on the sauna floor, hosted by Dani, who of course knew all the bangers from back then and was with me on the nostalgia cloud with me. That was exactly what I wanted, thank you!
