this track was released in a time well after the production of the idea and the inspiration was found in darker, heavier tracks. however, when given the opportunity to connect to melody and brightness, this mix came together quite effortlessly and I was connected back to a core reason for loving music.

In the western mystical tradition and in the tradition of many cultures worldwide, God is Androgyne, both male and female.   God created Adam in their image.  He saw that Adam was lonely.  A singular self has no consciousness, so God split Adam in two, creating male and female.    Thus consciousness was born on an illusion of other. 

The Soul thus split, longs for union and completion.  This is the basis for the idea of romantic love. Romantic love in its pure form removed from coercion, control and pathology bequeathed to us by our culture is the quest for this union.  Our beloved becomes a mirror of our inner self.  Two equals longing for their own inner completion.   We are already whole within ourselves and only need to find our way.   This is the grail quest.  If we accept such a myth as the basis for our reality, the dividing concepts of gender identity, gender roles, sexual orientation and racial identity meant to control us become meaningless.  

We are all who we are.  Who we are as individuals with free will to decide for OURSELVES who we are.   That is the kind of freedom that will bring this whole system of dominator oppression down and that is what the system fears.   To become whole is a revolutionary act.   

This sacred union is ultimately an individual journey and can be undertaken through relationship with another, with self, with God.   Remember,our perception is limited by language, biology, past experience and our position in space/time.   Myths that resonate speak to that which can’t be named.  We all create our own myths and connect to archetypes that relate to our experience.  When working the path through another, always be mindful that the path is your path and not theirs.  To put another on  a pedestal of Other is limiting to both and ultimately destructive and illusory.   The other referred to here is the other within yourself.  Always allow any that chose to enter your space to visit and connect their own mythology that works for them.  
Instead of rejecting a Valentine's Day that promotes a codependent, unrealistic and unhealthy view of romantic love based on seeking validation from outside ourselves, let us promote a view of romantic love that celebrates connection based on equals.  A connection  allowing both to show up in their full, authentic, powerful selves.   I invite you to take this day back to its holy roots.  
 
In that spirit, I offer this mix inspired by that sacred journey.  Happy Valentine's Day!

"I played 10 different sets on the playa this year! Here's 3 of them. Treavor Moontribe told me he's curating a Moontribe & Friends take over at the amazing Kalliope Art Car and it turned out to be one of my fav. gigs of this burn. When the opening DJ didn't make it, I ended up playing an extended opening set, then a powerful B2B with Armando Kroma, and of course closing it out by playing my schedule sunrise set.

Anton Tumas - Kalliope - Burning Man 2017 - Monday Launch

Erika discovered Seattle’s underground electronic music scene in 2008, and quickly became a regular patron of the dance floor. Once she had become a part of the community, Erika understood the importance of giving back, and could often be found volunteering at the local club events and festivals. Originally influenced by the more bass-driven sounds of Drum n’ Bass and Hardcore, Erika’s taste in music as a dancer expanded to techno and the many sub-genres of house. After over a decade of making the dance floors of Seattle’s clubs, lofts, rooftops and abandoned warehouses her home, Erika decided to dive further into electronic music and began DJing as Copeland in 2021. Because of her many years of dancing and feeling the music, Copeland has an intuitiveness to her DJing style that cannot be taught. As her confidence behind the deck has grown, so has her energy and movement, which feeds the crowd and sets the vibe. Never sticking to one genre in her sets, you’ll hear everything from Classic Chicago House, Funk & Disco, to Minimal, Deep & Psychedelic House; paired with sensual and soulful undertones. Copeland has had the opportunity to DJ at several summer festivals, and events for her burning man camp, The Dusty Booty Ranch, as well as the infamous Train Car House Party and Flammable. Copeland has DJ'd at Monkey Loft, Lo-Fi, Madame Lou's, Substation, Nectar, High Dive, The Woods, The Seattle Art museum, Timbre Room, and more! Copeland is also a resident of two amazing crews that represent the PNW, Reflect and Viva Recordings, where she is learning about the business side of throwing events, bringing her full circle back to where she started, focused on the well-being of the Seattle Dance Community that has become her chosen family.
