This song began one creative Saturday evening several weeks ago with JJ coming up with it on his organ, piano, bass, and drums. He wrote it with the Eclectic Collective in mind and immediately shared it with the rest of us.
  Ken was the first to jump on it, adding his strong, Masonesque drums. Josh excitedly dove in once he had a beat to play off of. Then, it was time for the guitarists in the band to show off their skills. Stephen laid down the psychedelic, textural guitar you hear throughout, as well as the thrilling solo in the middle, starting around 1:25 and ending around 1:50. Tez did his best Dave Gilmour impression, adding rest of the fiery lead solo you hear throughout, as well. 
  Once it was in the can, we needed a mix, of course, and Stephen was kind enough to work his magic on the production.
  This is a perfect example of a JJ seed that took bloom with the EC. We all love working on his songs. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.

"Far Leys" is a soft, drifting indie folk song by Northern Sky, a band known for its cinematic and emotionally rich songwriting. This track explores memory, longing, and the quiet spaces we return to—real or imagined. With its delicate imagery and restrained pace, it captures the emotional echoes left behind after someone has quietly slipped away.

The song is also a quiet homage to Nick Drake, whose music and spirit have long inspired Northern Sky’s sound. Far Leys is the name of the  home in Tanworth-in-Arden, Warwickshire, United Kingdom, where Nick Drake spent his boyhood years and ultimately passed away in 1974. Set in the Stratford district, the house and its surrounding countryside have become part of the emotional landscape his music evokes.

This song draws from that setting—stone walls, blooming orchards, fading summer light—and captures the hush that remains when love becomes memory.

For Northern Sky, Far Leys is both a place and a feeling—a quiet reflection on what’s been lost, and what still lingers in the stillness of the mind.

This is a demo of a track I wrote a while back. I originally left it off the Close The Distance album because I wasn’t fully happy with my mix.

I recently revisited it and asked for some fresh ears and mixing advice from a trusted long term collaborator (aka The Expert) 😁 He absolutely loved the song and was excited by the challenge of taking it somewhere new which turned into a full re-arrangement and a completely new production direction.  The mix is still being fine-tuned over the coming weeks, so I’ll share full production credits once we’ve locked in the final version.

For now, here’s the demo stage!!!
