Ian has been playing music to people at parties, in clubs, bars and on radio for over 30 years. An avid collector of funk, soul, hip-hop and electro records, he eventually became absorbed into the nascent acid house scene in East London and Essex. Throughout the 90’s and into the 2000’s, he trod the well worn path of DJ residencies and promoting parties eventually making and releasing his own music, remixing and running a record label spanning the evolution from big-beat to NuSkool breaks.

After a move to South East London, Ian secured a residency at Deptford institution bar and radio station, AAJA, playing slots live at the bar and online, spawning the long-running Dark Disco Radio show, now broadcasting monthly on Mixcloud. 

Recent DJ bookings include iconic venues the Social in London and the world famous Golden Lion in Todmorden. As a producer and remixer, his output can be found on scene-favourite labels like Paisley Dark, When Disco Goes Wrong, Hottwerk and the seminal Nein Records, also spawning his breaks and acid collaboration with Nein head-honcho Neil Parnell as PARVALE.

In a world turned upside down, where chaos reigns and uncertainty is the only constant, we, a disparate band of souls, found sanctuary in the most unexpected of places: the Counterterraism Guest Mix Series. The name itself mirrored the core of our purpose.

Counter, the antithesis, and Terra, the Earth, symbolise our ceaseless battle to navigate the tumultuous sea of a world in disarray. 

Week after week, we invite a guest, a luminary of the electronic music realm, to share their melodies and tales. These auditory odysseys become the score for our uncharted lives.

Amidst a world veering from its familiar course, we embrace it. We dance to a new rhythm, a reminder that even in a world turned strange and unrecognisable, our connection to the Earth and one another is a tether to acceptance. Life, it seemed, had taken a different path, and we, in the harmonious discord of Counterterraism, found an unconventional beauty.
