I ran across this old Merle Haggard tune that was written in the 70's
Boy did it hit home and sure fits with things today.  This is another song
that Mike (Lefty Mike) did a little magic and added bass, harp and his

Me and God (Cover)

Durge wrote this one based on his recollection of the little red-headed girl that lived down the street from his childhood home. The song is done in an Irish folk style with tin whistle and accordion to set the tone. It recounts the aftermath of the little girl suddenly moving away, never to be heard from again, including the disappointment and realizations that came with that moment. We thank Sara Formoso for her valuable contribution on accordion.

My eldest son had the opportunity to attend a local university and continue living at home. Being a well tuned-in, modern thinking Dad, I thought that not only would this be a financial benefit to him, but he’d also be able to continue his education with home comforts. I was totally wrong because I forgot that this step into his future was about so much more than education. It was about independence, personal choice, making mistakes and growing up, something which became very apparent to him in just a few  short weeks. He didn't want to upset us but did pluck up the courage to tell us he wanted to move out.  No problem with that, so we set about assisting him in finding a place to live and, very pleased to report, all has turned out really well.  He completed his university course, had a life changing experience and hasn’t looked back since.
At the time I wanted him to know that no matter what he chooses to do in life, I will be there and that he’ll always have my support (always hoping of course that he wouldn’t become a serial killer or, even worse, vote Conservative), which is why I wrote this song.
Gordon has arranged and produced some very special music for this track and, as always, it’s been a total pleasure working with such a talented and generous musician.  Gary delivered some top drumming, topped off with great backing vocals from Gord, and I cannot thank them enough. 
Today would have been our Dad's 92nd. Birthday so thought, given the opportunity, a good day to post a Father to Son track. Happy Birthday Dad.  Still miss you.   (Terry Reeves)
