This was obviously quite the deluded sentiment in retrospect. Countless moments of weakness and ‘exceptions’ later, I shifted my strategy toward ignoring all the $40 hypebeast-bait records on Discogs and letting frugality be the guiding spirit for all future grips. In other words: cheap records only. Since then, I’ve come across more excellent, surprising and refreshing records than any other period of digging I can recall. Bonus: it kicked me out of the human-centipede of ‘digger’ culture and led me toward more unique sounds than those en vogue or that I would have previously played.
