the track art is the torn up backside of one of my favorite basement chairs.  my cat verbal (who ain't here no more) would go to town on my basement furniture.  we had a deal, and for his part, he did a good job of leaving our upstairs stuff relatively unharmed.  the chair from the pic is honestly not all that comfy, but i miss my buddy...and when i sit there i like to pretend that he's behind me going to town keeping his shit sharp.

the song has nothing to do with my cat.  i wrote it for a friend.

there is another very different version of this song.  the music is much faster and completely backwards.  and the vocals are completely different.  i made a video if you want to watch :)

the acoustic guitar and bass lines were recorded on 4-track cassette.  i moved the tracks over individually to my laptop using audacity.  i did a ton of editing.  i then added the vocals and beatbox straight to audacity (using the 4-track as a vocal amp).

the first half of my pretzels page is pure 4-track recordings.  recently most of my recordings are much more like this.  some kind of weird in-breed of cassette and free downloaded multi tracker.

that's all.  i hope you feel bonus'd.  :D

This is my first collab and it's with Anne Lee. I love her voice.

I wrote this song to describe the catharsis that comes from the sense of total loss in this world, during a time that I would consider a very low point in my life. The strong negative feelings I once felt, the mantra needed to get through the hours when nothing was distracting enough to cope. "The person that broke me can't possibly fix me it's more than we both can afford".

Recorded in Terlingua Ghost Town church in Texas just outside of Big Bend National Park. This old run down church was open and empty and had that holy natural reverb so we crawled in like sneaky children and sang a song.

I moved to the east coast eight years ago and experienced the most pivotal years of my life. There is something about this rugged, unforgiving place and direct and honest culture that leaves a person feeling exposed.
