𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘛𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘹 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺.

We open on red earth and whistling winds. The fire crackles, and the night creeps in. Fading light is met with rising sound. The bilma (clapsticks) play. We hear stories and songs; ones that speak to the rich history of the Yamitji and Wongatha peoples. Their ancestors have been here a long time. A long time.

Walya Ngaamadiki. 

As darkness turns to light, we travel north-east. We pass from red dirt to white sand. Through the sound of the waves, we hear songs from the Nunukul people and the Munaldjali clan of the Yugambeh. 

Red earth trails beneath us as we head west again, inland. Uluru rises before us. Here we pay respects to the central desert and its custodians, the Pitjantjatjara people.

The yidaki (didgeridoo)plays, calling us north. We’re greeted by Yolngu songmen from Yirrkala, before following calls east by the Mudburra peoples. We pause. We embrace the calm. 

Abala Barlawa (Everything is at peace)

We gaze out to the ocean. 

Islands to the north sing out, and a Kalaw Kawaw Ya voice arrives on the shores. We take stock, before we're beckoned south again.

We revisit the Yolngu songmen and greet the Pitjantjatjara people before heading east, to the Wannyi, Lardil and Kalkadunga tribes.

It's the gaagum (kookaburra) that welcomes us to our final stop. Gumbaynggirr country. 

Darkness starts to fall.

It’s been a long time. A long time.
