Sugarloaf Hill is one of the Malvern Hills here in England, between the two highest peaks of that range. I have walked it a lot and it always gives me a melancholy feeling, hence this song.

A very personal and idiosyncratic interpretation of Tuxedomoon's emblematic & beloved song, that emerged late one night out of intense emotional need to communicate the very point of it, at a recent dark time of loss and separation.

We are sometimes wounded by the words people speak - but we can die from the ones that were never spoken...

This Serenade was composed in the fall of 2023, while I was getting acquainted to the melodica and was learning to play it. My aim was to have a piece large enough with a piano accompaniment.
