MOONLIGHT

An Irish slow air recorded once through on my phone in a practice session. A historical, political story from 1798. I’m playing on my Dad’s fiddle. The photo and river are from my walk home from work - I was feeling elemental today.

this came from the first drum take recorded in my new downsized studio. kids needed larger rooms and my partner, Monika Jean, moved in, so sacrifices had to be made. most of the drums are gone. what you hear on this track are odds and ends i could squeeze into a corner. floor tom as a kick, broken hi hat that wont open, etc etc. surprisingly i tend to enjoy frankenstein drum sets more than full ones. the whole "making something out of nothing" spirit tends to inspire me most.

MON ÎLE

I did this about a year ago -- posting again because I reworked it a bit, and I just really like the tune. The 2nd & 3rd verses were inspired by a fellow SoundCloud member's life events.

with the gentle sound in your mind
(knowing that soon the sun will rise leaving the night behind)

that everything will be alright

I put down the page knowing there was no turning back
I watched her breathing in the sacred arc of life
I wandered alone in a hallway lit by an exit light

so much time when you were young
didn't feel the pendulum
now the saturnine faces of the ones we love
you wonder why

if I could have anything that I could keep safe and never undone
I would hold you in this fragile moment in the september sun
it means everything to have you near me
