It’s just a love song. Written in June/July 2022 but set in a room in an old house in Exeter in 1985.

Lyrics:

My watch strap smells of perfume from a town in Southern France
You wore my watch last weekend at a party where we danced
We were kissing in the pub, our friends were laughing,  they were singing
The band was playing loud, our lips were sore, our ears were ringing

And now, the window to my room is open to the night
Its cold but I can see the stars, and watch the trees sway in the moonlight
The tap drips, floors creak, but I’m safe within these walls
And I miss you so badly, can’t live at all

Its just so strong ,I feel possessed by these thoughts of you
I’ve tried to fight it but there is nothing I can do
I should accept its love

I hear the train announcements from platforms down the hill
And prayers are said for our love in a room that’s light and still
I love this life I live, but now its dull and slow without you
I don’t want that anymore, and now I know what I must do

And now, I’m alone and lying in the deepest bath
My fingers trace the places on my body where you kissed me in the dark
I want the movement of your body, I want the touch, I want the heat
And I miss you so badly, just got to get through this week

Its just so strong I feel possessed by these thoughts of you
I’ve tried to fight it but there is nothing I can do

Gin Blossoms Cover.  Story about a time ago:

I lived in Tempe, AZ from 1987-92 where the Gin Blossoms originated. When I was 21 in 1989 I was able to see them play at Long Wongs. Before I turned 21 I listened to them in the street in front of the bar along Mill Ave with the other underage kids. Long Wongs (now gone) was a chicken wing and beer joint with live music on Mill Ave. A fixture in Old Town Tempe. The Gin Blossoms sometimes also played at Long Wongs incognito as the “Del Montes” and played for about five hours straight and played old TV theme songs along with all their original material and the hits before they were hits like "Mrs. Rita" and "Allison Road". Hearing Allison Road ring-out over Mill Avenue late at night was a common sound and anyone could hear that song a hundred times and still love it, a great tune.  Once I saw the Del Montes with Elvis The Cat, a neighborhood street artist and overall character. Robin Wilson is also a truly kind man. He once set me up at an open mic at the Sun Club in Tempe around 1990 so I could sing a few songs for my new girlfriend. He also worked at Tower Records where I was a regular.  Anyway, I just met this amazing girl and wanted to impress her and sing her some songs and he also hosted an open mic at the Sun Club, another local dive bar and Tempe music institution at the other end of town. That ended up being the girl I took to Seattle and married. And I never got to thank that Gin Blossoms singer for setting me up, introducing me, and doing my sound to make a good impression - he became a rock star and I moved to Seattle with the girl. Hello All
We just wanted everyone who has submitted a track to know that Smirks is continuing to work on these. We are both proud and pleased to say that your response was simply amazing, with such brilliant pieces to work on and, because we want the finished product to be the best it can be, putting everything together is taking time.  Smirks also contracted Covid some weeks ago, which has laid him quite low for a time - another reason things have been held up.  But we wanted to assure you that the project is very much ongoing.  

So Smirks decided to put this together to give listeners a taster of what we want the end product to be.  He hasn't included any of your submissions because he didn't want to spoil the element of surprise for everyone involved.
There are many collabs currently being put together - even my brother Tel and myself are working on something - so it's a very complex entity, all things considered.  But rest assured, we are getting there.
