Kangding Ray consistently fascinates the scene with his unique style that is bridging the dance floor and abstract electronic composition, talking equally to the mind and the body. His first record for Figure spans exactly that arc, introducing to the label something both for headphones as it is built for the big clubs.

The tracks on X13 feel as intimate as the artist‘s work on other long players but are focused clearly on impacting the physical realm. Teeming with ideas, he first lets his modular synths sway and turn loosely before switching it to a more bassy and propulsive approach on the flip. Balancing cinematic strings against stepping rhythms, the EP‘s closing track is another prime example of this producer‘s skill to craft something which holds up as an abstract piece of art as much as it does yield a lot of emotional tension.

Acclaimed techno experimentalist Kangding Ray debuts on Len Faki’s Figure imprint with more edgy and avant-garde cuts on ‘Azores EP’ this October. 

Fusing a background in experimental music with an ear for stark, discerning techno, Kangding Ray has become a cult favourite since releasing on labels such as Raster-Noton and Stroboscopic Artefacts. Alongside his solo work, the Berlin-based artist has collaborated with Sigha as Neon Chambers, contributed on remixes duties for Ben Frost on Mute, Oscar Mulero on PoleGroup and always manages to mix functionality with cinematic sound design.

Kiku is here, the next various artist album on Oleeva.  Featuring label mainstays such as Daniel Verhagen, Didacte and Sam Goku whilst also providing a spotlight and platform for newly discovered debutants such as Alec Robertson and 3 S. The release is a testament to the diversity and originality of these artists and the sounds they’re capable of creating. A colorful, cohesive, aural trip that spans the spectrum of electronica, house and techno. 26 tracks for you to live with and get to know over the coming months. 

Yarni’s contribution is a textural, delicate cut of deep house, that was one of the first tracks to be completed for Kiku. The Sheffield based producer has really honed his craft in recent years and Burnt Orange is a perfect example of this. It opens brightly with crisp field recordings and whirring, robotic effects, only to take a deeper direction with the arrival of a heavy side-chained bass. Hopeful piano chords take over the break and return in the final third to see us through.

Watergate’s emphasis on the finest emerging talent continues, with the label debut of GLOWAL.

The Italian duo arrive on the imprint with a fine pedigree, having landed stirring releases on Innervisions, Afterlife, Sapiens and Diynamic all in the last 18 months. They similarly impressed during their maiden WG club gig last October on the Waterfloor.

The four-tracker ‚Night Queen’ masterfully manages to eschew a familiar club sound for something all-together uplifting, nostalgic and captivating, courtesy of their powerful arrangements and strong leads. The title track is driven by ‘80s synths and pop sensibilities, while owning enough low-end groove to propel a dancefloor (or home rave set-up). ‘Moment’ provides just that; a shining jewel of a track, dying to be played at that delicious end-of-night moment, as Simon Batten’s soaring vocal bring the collective masses to their proverbial knees. ‘Enigma’ is characterised by a robotic vocal that slides over sparse drums and a languid synth hook. ‘Antenna’ is a multi-faceted trip that combines synthwave melodies, pulsating electro chords and a slick rolling groove that keeps the track interesting from start to finish.
