Wellington-based producer Zuke returns with a new rework from his acclaimed debut album Come Closer (Dec 2024), a fresh take on the album’s downtempo gem ‘How We Met’, remixed alongside long-time collaborator Dylan C.

Where the original drifted with haunting Rhodes chords and a deep, meditative atmosphere, the Dylan C & Zuke Remix drives the track towards the dancefloor. Lifting the tempo, the duo reshape it into a hypnotic organic house groover, with inspired elements of acid house & dub echoes.

This marks the first official release for Dylan C & Zuke , a pairing well-known for their hybrid live/DJ performances across New Zealand festivals and club shows over the past six years. The remix captures the essence of those sets: deep, melodic, and immersive, yet always underpinned by energy and movement.

After the success of Aboutface's debut EP on Amirali's Dark Matters Imprint in October of 2015, Aboutface performed his project 'Vaga' the River Wye as a metaphorical representation of the journey of humanity, live at Freerotation (2016), the performance was also broadcast on NTS Radio on 16/7/16. Following this mesmerising and exploratory project, the young London based composer and DJ returns with a new release. 'In The Tepid Shine We Breathe' is due out on the 19th of September.

The three track EP opens with 'In The Tepid Shine We Breathe feat. Darker', Aboutface's subtle skill imbues his work with a stillness and precision even when blending analogue forms of media 'such as 1/4" tape, Cassettes and VHS as a part of the sonic palette,' he is able to create additional depth in his music. Darker aka Jenna Whelan's Vocals gently break the tumbling elements with an airy beauty.

‘There Must Be Chaos Within You To Give Birth To A Dancing Star', the second track on the EP showcases Aboutface's use of field recordings, light rain spatters the ground as a warbling synth line gradually becomes bolder. Eventually this is joined by a simple drum pattern, somehow managing to maintain the eery melancholia Aboutface is so adept at creating.

Redshape steps up for a remix of the title track. He highlights the vocal sample before rearranging the drums into a punchier and more streamlined rhythm. The track morphs into a dance floor heater, perfectly complimenting the slower pace of the originals with a faster and straightforward approach.

You learned that there are genres.
Everything separated into categories with their own canon and rules: Major, minor, 4/4, 6/8, highs, lows, high head, butt end.
Techno here, Disco there. You learned that art and music are two different things. Visually auditory, audio-visual, optically acoustic, not to mention the surface feel.
Listen to me, look at me, touch me. But everything in that order please! You have learned that understanding takes you further.
Night / life, rhythm / dancing, substance / excess, water / holding out, sleep / rest, headache / not good.
But what would it be if all of that wasn't just right? If all of our knowledge is based on the mistake of having to put everything in relation? To classify it, to make it responsive.
What do we do with something that doesn't follow the rules of this logic? That is not based on 0 and 1 and therefore not bound to our binary systems? Is this all at once?
After all, what if the whole thing has no limits?
