Dave Stuart - Everything is Temporary

DJ bios are terrible things... so let me just tell you a few things about myself and we'll leave it at that?

I'm Dave Stuart and im that DJ / Record Store owner & event promoter from Sydney. I've plied my 'craft' through the best & worst times on Sydney's nightlife and im still as passionate about what I do as the night I first set foot in a DJ booth.

Every part of searching for music to stock at our shop, finding tracks to fit in my dj sets, and figuring out which dj's to book & when for our events gives me reason and purpose and I enjoy every second of it.

As a dj I love the deeper dubbier cuts of records, and most of my dj sets show this side of me, for those of your that like to categorise things via genres then feel free to pigeon hole me as a dj that plays dub techno, minimal house, tech house, deep house, and techno.... so yes all the bollocks. But I try as best I can to adhere to some sound advise that a Dj much better than myself once gave me; “its not what you play, its when and how you play it”. And that simple sentence has influenced how I approach my dj'ing. Aside from playing in Sydney for what seems like forever I regularly visit Europe to play and have been known to play in the usual haunts including; Tresor / Globus, ://about blank , Salon Zur Wilden Renate, Golden Gate, Chalet and Griessmuehle, Secktor – Dresden, & more.

When it comes to events I have been running in parties in Sydney for over a decade and am co-founder of Something Else, which has somehow managed to stay running (mostly in a weekly format) since 2014 but we've been around longer than than in other guises....Something Else has a house & techno vibe and again if you need to know names..... we've had the likes of djs like; Vlad Arapasu / Ada kaleh, Silat Beksi, Eric Cloutier, Vril (Delsin / Giegling) Patrice Scott (Sistrum), DJ DEEP (Deeply Rooted / Fr), Norman Nodge (Ostgut Ton), Answer Code Request.... you get the idea right?

In 2018 Something Else expanded and opened a record store under the same name, Something Else Records is based in Sydney's suburb of Newtown and is focused primarily on similar sounds that you would find at the Something Else and similar like mind parties around Sydney. Something Else Records proudly carries exclusively electronic music across the house, techno and electro spectrum.

I began dj'ing at the age of thirteen on vinyl turn tables. I've had a few musical transitions since then, eventually finding a passion for house and techno. 
Over the years I've had multiple residencies which have developed my sound further. 
In more recent years I've moved onto producing house and techno with an occasional melodic influence. I'm also part of a Live duo called Cymbol who have releases on several record labels.

In the spirit of defecting from the much-maligned third-person bio approach: in short, I am a Sydney-based DJ who specialises in the sounds of deeper house and disco.  I take delight in playing a solid warm-up set and revel in the success of watching a room build around it.

Since making my club debut as a fresh-faced eighteen-year-old at 'Thursday Delights' at the Icebox—a popular trance and hard dance event of the time—I have been lucky enough to play right across Sydney, enjoying bookings at Sounds on Sunday, S*A*S*H, Chinese Laundry, Plastic, Café del Mar, The Burdekin and Candy's Apartment; as well as larger-scale events such as Big Day Out and Harbour Party NYE.

In the process, I've also been fortunate enough to support some of the leading names in dance music—both locally and from around the world—including LCD Soundsystem, Booka Shade, Subb-an, Chymera, Sonja Moonear, Luke Chable, Jasper James, YokoO, Kenny Glasgow, Darren Emerson, Mark Dynamix and Kid Kenobi, to name just a few.

I like to put on the promoter hat, too, hosting and playing at events of my own: 'Attic' being my main project.

Since its inception, the Attic brand has enjoyed success in its standalone parties—for which we've toured renowned house and disco artists, Fouk, Nachtbraker, Folamour and Laurence Guy, to name a few—as well as appearing all around Sydney for invitational takeovers, radio appearances, and exclusive showcase sets.

Away from the club dancefloor, you might also find me playing an extended-length set in a low-lit bar, exercising the deeper, more eclectic selections of my record box—lower, slower and groovy, just the way I like it!

For ten years, I was heavily involved with the Internet radio game, hosting successful programs, 'Friday Night Live' and 'The M Shift'; on Indiesoundz and NSB Radio networks, respectively.  The M Shift, which ran for six years, specialised in breaks, house and drum 'n' bass, and was regularly enjoyed by thousands of live listeners, downloaders, and Podcast-listeners alike.

As above, I pride myself on playing a good warm-up set—added again for emphasis!—and believe it to be somewhat of a lost art form in this current age.

I also don't mind getting in the studio occasionally, but that facet, for now, is still very much a work in progress!

Deepa is a dance floor favourite for her ability to connect genres with a signature warmth and flirtiness, exchanging energies with audiences through her sets that will see them leave a little sexier than when they entered. 

A love of community and culture has forever moulded Deepa’s personal ethos, with all of her music projects honing that even further. Through the airwaves via FBi Radio’s Thursday Sunset slot, on the ground running her own party Bypass, or across the nation as a founding member of Aus South Asian creative collective Kerfew, Deepa proudly champions the sound of Eoracore, broadcasting the interconnectedness that makes the city unique and bringing dancers along for the ride. As a DJ her history as part of duo Honey Point, an outfit championing cozy neo-soul and jazzy house, reflects into her club focussed selections, echoing a warmth and human touch that amplifies the intimacy of the dancefloor.

Deepa’s taste for all things naturalistic and clubby, finds her unifying genres and reshaping crowd expectations with a joyous charm. Playing with dichotomies of density and intensity, her craft looks outside of pure club and techno creating a hot’n’heavy dancefloor pastiche you can get lost in. Locked in grooves, chugging percussion and invigorating baselines are dealt with ease when she’s behind the decks, and after playing in her hometown of Eora Sydney for over seven years now she’s become a mainstay on dancefloors and as a part of the wider club community. 

Her ability to align with the energy of an audience and reflect their rhythmic needs has taken Deepa to the stages of Pitch Music & Arts Festival, Strawberry Fields Festival, Subsonic Festival and Boiler Room, as well as landing her a residency leading the legendary dancefloor of Club 77. This has also caught the attention of international acts such as Ahadadream, Jamz Supernova, Four Tet, John Talabot, Hagan, and Honey Dijon to name a few, pulling Deepa as support for their time in so called Aus.

Community is at the forefront of Deepa’s DJ practice, and with this branching into the European and Asian party scene she hopes to connect even further and sexify even more dancefloors.

Kate Doherty has established themselves in the Eora electronic dance scene, energising dance floors for over two decades. Recognised for their dynamic and eclectic sound, Kate skillfully weaves together techno, house, and electro, infused with a distinctive flair of funk. With each set, they push boundaries, ensuring that every performance is a celebration of rhythm and community.

A former resident DJ for the legendary House of Mince and 4our crews, they have also made their mark on a multitude of Sydney events, including Control, Loose Ends, Club77, Undisclosed, Dunj, Subsonic Festival and numerous other gatherings. Their contributions to the 40th Mardi Gras after party, along with sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Paula Temple, Sharelle, Helena Hauff, Nene H, K-Hand, DJ Sprinkles, Freddy K, and Luke Slater and more, underscore their reputation as a key player in the scene.
