We first did an edit of the original Quincy Jones Soul Bossanova to play at Nick Hollywood's "Club Montepulciano" club night. The reaction was so strong - we simply had to do a cover of our own. Definitely the largest production we had done back then, with a brass section, numerous vocalists and percussionists. 

This version is a completely brand new (analog) mix made from the original stems. The piano track (which was originally a plug in) has been replaced with a shiny new (real) Grand Piano. :D

Such an honor to be invited again to collaborate with Seagull, a wonderful musician and creator who challenges me to reach beyond my usual genre of music to add to his.  This time it is to join him in a place of rest for the heart away from the turmoil that fills the headlines.  We ask you to join us too for a few brief minutes.

One of Nature's sweetest fragrances, rain-washed air.  What a delight and honor to join Dan-DT, Clara, and Seagull in making this fragrant aural experience, and my maiden voyage into Dan's lovely genre of French Fantasy more of which can be heard @dan-t-3. How wonderful it is to work with skilled guitarist and synth artist Seagull and ace guitarist Ed Cunningham on our tribute to the night sky; a favorite pastime of mine in years gone by. I was once an avid amateur astronomer (still have my telescope), until I got caught up in the guitar universe and this wonderful place called Soundcloud. Quietude in the midst of chaos, confusion, uncertainty, and restlessness; Seagull captures an Eden-like vision of tranquility and reflection.  It also came with a surprise he kept securely under his hat; I would be joined in the collaboration with him by two of my favorite SC artists, Ed Cunningham and Dan-t, masters of their genre. I didn't know until he unveiled the finished product.  My approach turned out to be "less is more" so I show up to the party fashionably late at just past the 2:00 mark, but what a lovely party...and vision.  I hope you think so too. Lounge way executed by the American group Pink Martini  on his first album, sympathique, in 1997, "Amado Mio" was created in 1946 for the movie Gilda. It is mimed by actress Rita Hayworth and sung by Anita Kert Elis. Aida KALY revels in this kitsch Latin theme wish she deals with strength and emotion. "Amado Mio" allows to locate immediately the particular universe of Pink Martini.

The original idea for this emerged from a single dream. I don't dream about the story all that often, but in the last 5 weeks, I most certainly have. 

Chapters released every weekend. All TAFFETA tracks are created within seven days. 

I use a complete hybrid of organic & electronic sounds within the scope of the Taffeta project. Nothing is out of the question and no limits are set on how things may evolve one way or another.

What began as a prosaic comment evolved into an enriching collaboration.  Our friend and Soundcloud poet laurate Peter joins us on a fishing voyage.  Seagull, not content to do a simple voice over, remixes the track and places us on a fishing boat, the sea a bit rough, the gulls impatient for part of the catch, and Peter not just reading but dynamically narrating what he is experiencing on the deck of the ship.  What an honor to work with these artists enlarging on our previous collaboration. There are many legends of Elfenberg but there is only one DJ duo I could possibly be referring to announcing today’s Schirmchendrink bartenders: 

Mystic drums, euphoric rhythms and moving melodies – this is the unmistakable signature of the Stockholm-based DJ duo, consisting of Viktor Elfqvist and Hernik Malmberg, which has become indispensable on today’s dancefloors around the globe.

Viktor and Henrik are both born and raised in the suburbs of Stockholm, where they’ve been capturing vibrant folkloric sounds from early age.

Their debut EP on Lump records hit the ground running right away and is still creating waves in the scene. Further releases on labels such as Stil vor Talent, 3000 Grad or Serafin followed shortly. And it has just been two days since their latest release: the “Tanzanite & Loma” EP has been released on MoBlack Records, known for their tribal infused gems.

"The Candle" is an ode to 2 genres I adore since many years:
Funk 'n' Fusion & Celtic Music.
Through the years I've dedicated some original tracks of mine to these beloved genres (for example: https://soundcloud.com/quipmusic/calaminus-jiggle-from-on-the-trail) - many of them released within the 2012 album "On the trail".
These tracks were inspired by several musicians/bands who combined Celtic Music with Funk, Jazz and Groove to a Fusion of its own, such as Bill Evans Soulgrass or the early Peatbog Faeries... up to the very special Salsa Celtica who combine Celtic Music with Salsa!

"The Candle" continues the journey of jigs and grooves I started to make (on) my own seven years ago... and spins it further a bit.

This track is also the start for a new collection of original tracks of Calaminus: The Light Series. Topically these tracks will all circle around LIGHT and try to correlate with it musically.
Cause we all long for some light, don't we?!

This is a two-guitar version of a song I wrote for my 2nd daughter, Joanna and collaborated with Curtis Gremmel who takes the lead.  His playing adds a whole other dimension to the track. For those curious; Curtis' ten fingers are left center in the mix, my ten fingers are right center.

DNA Blues est un blues aux sonorités africaines, comme on peut l'entendre au Mali et rendu célèbre par quelques musiciens tel Ali Farka Touré. 
Considéré comme l'adn du blues par Martin Scorsese dans le film documentaire du Mali au Mississippi, cette musique dans sa forme la plus ancienne est à l'origine de bien des genres musicaux que nous écoutons aujourd'hui.


DNA Blues is a blues with African sounds, as can be heard in Mali and made famous by some musicians like Ali Farka Toure.
Considered as the blues dna by Martin Scorsese in the documentary film of Mali in Mississippi, this music in its earliest form is at the origin of many of the musical genres we listen to today.

In a nut shell, this song is about depression and my personal struggles with it. Life circumstances can be heavy, but "just keep striving"!

The Moon's Theme

This tune came out of a wonderful convergence (happy accident); my collaboration with @devin-locke on "Theme and Variations" and a renewed interest in the painting of Bob Ross. One of the variations I became so taken with, I wanted to develop it into a full track using the original steel string voice of the collaboration then adding nylon string to enlarge the melody line.  "Happy Accidents" was a favorite saying of Bob Ross as he would go about his painting on Public Television.  I saw how it applied to me in how I have composed guitar music over the years;  the unexpected note or chord I first thought a mistake became a turning point for a phrase or melody line.  Some would call it "serendipity", for Bob Ross it was a "happy accident".  If you listen closely toward the beginning, you can hear my granddaughter Lily in the background, a bit of a cameo and very much a happy accident:)

A while back fine guitarist @devin-locke inspired me to revisit some of the early Miles Davis' recordings which are brilliant jazz masterpieces.  I wanted to try my hand at the style and have Devin join me if he felt so inclined.  He hasn't yet, but may do so in the future:) Anyway, a little tribute to a master...

Miles And Miles To Go

Written for my 2nd granddaughter who turned 20 last November, she is pictured here as a three year old about the time the song was first written.  It was a stylistic breakthrough for me finding its birth on a Mexican classical guitar I found at a pawn shop and bought at a bargain because it needed repair.  Shortly after the glue dried, I started playing it and the opening phrases of the song just poured out and I thought "that sounds like my Grace".  So here it is on the Godin, a song for Grace and a prayer for you.

Grace To You

Angels play a huge role throughout the Biblical narrative.  They also play a role in our lives as well, probably much more than we realize...May Lemke is one such angel. I read about her years ago and her rescuing of a hopelessly disabled, premature baby she would adopt and name Leslie in an article titled "The Miracle of May Lemke's Love".
