A wonderful song. Endearing memorial and forthright in honoring a friend. I learned Country picking here from a neighbor and friend. Sitting around shooting the shit and having a good ole time.

The tribute to Elmer and Bonnie is handled with such care, I felt it in my chest. 🔥 The oven rumbled softly, “This one’s been slow cooked with soul and memory, you can taste the care in every note” 🥶 The ice dispenser whispered, “It’s got a stillness that lingers, like the kind of goodbye that lives with you” 🧀 The grater interrupted gently, “I usually cut through things, but this track already slices clean to the truth” A beautiful, grounded tribute. Beautiful tune David. The algorithm played it and it got my attention right away.

This song is written by Jim Barrett from Cork, Ireland, who sings and plays guitar, his brother Noel plays the bass. Roger Whittelsey from Boston produced it and added keyboards, drums and some vocals, and after that, I was lucky to have the opportunity the add some saxophone.

Haven’t been on the cloud much lately. Been travelling across the southern Australian coastline, to the beautiful and remote Kangaroo Island. Its beauty seemed strangely juxtaposed to the horrors going on elsewhere.

Lucky Man

I wrote this song 15 years ago for close friend and guitarist Elmer Stone. Elmer and I have collaborated on three songs on Soundcloud but this one is purely a tribute to him and the friendship we have shared for the past thirty-plus years.  It is also a memorial for his wife Bonnie who he lost two years ago. She was a core contributor to his music, life partner, and his best friend.
I am indebted to Mike Fox and Axel Meningen for taking my rough demo of the song and making it a broadcast quality production. This song was a bit of an experiment. While the tune is kind of poppy and upbeat, the lyrics are a little ambiguous. I had some fun trying to figure out the harmonies. A bit of a hot mess, but I am happy with it. I hope you enjoy!

The idea for this song came to me randomly while driving down some backroad a few years back, and I recorded the initial idea spur of the moment. For whatever reason, the rather morbid theme came out in the process and I just went with it. Nat is a daring soul and surprisingly encouraged that we record it and with her considerable help we fashioned this recording. Notable is that Nat has taken on the ability to add some beautiful pedal steel guitar throughout the song using her well established keyboard skills and this first run at it was very satisfying.
